What a glorious Le Mans it’ll be this year, with V12 power in the top tier back thanks to the Aston Martin Valkyrie. But the 2025 24 Hours will be notable for another iconic 12-cylinder race car, as it’s the 30th anniversary of the McLaren F1 GTR’s famous victory at La Sarthe this year. So Lanzante, the firm that campaigned the legendary Ueno Clinic #59 car which crossed the line first, is celebrating the occasion with a car it’s calling Project 95-59.
It’ll be shown at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the summer (probably Lanzante's second favourite venue for showing off - see vid) with potential customers already getting a sneak peek of the Paul Howse design ahead of then. As befits a car that pays homage to such a well-known racer, the 95-59 is going to be extreme: Lanzante suggests it’ll be 700hp-per-tonne strong, which is comfortably ahead of even Longtail-spec McLarens. And while based on a Woking wonder (it’s unclear which one yet), Lanzante says that this car is ‘bespoke engineered’, making use of the ‘experiences and knowledge built up by the team across three decades.’
The driver’s seat is going to be in the middle, of course. As much could probably be guessed by the strong central spine seen in the teaser image, the fact that this car celebrates the F1, and Lanzante’s suggestion that the 95-59 has been ‘designed with the driver at the centre of the action’. But it also confirms the presence of three seats, just to be clear.
Indeed, this isn’t some kind of track-only monster; much like the standard F1 back in the early 90s, this latest Lanzante is being built ‘with a focus on engineering, technical, ownership and useability.’ There will be a decent touring range and luggage capacity, according to the blurb, hopefully with the latter in side pods like the old McLaren. We should find out soon enough - Lanzante says more info will follow in the coming weeks leading up to summer.
