Lotus Esprit V8 Twin Turbo, 2000, 38k miles - sold for £37,520*
British carmakers are very good at getting their money’s worth from a car. Take the Lotus Esprit, for example. Arriving in 1976 with a humble 2.0-litre four-pot, the Esprit would undergo several major styling changes, the original Giugiaro design being reworked first by Peter Stevens and then Julian Thomson, numerous chassis revisions and, of course, a honking great twin-turbo V8 by the time production ceased some 26 years later.
And it’s one of those latter models that came across our auction platform last month. Being an Esprit V8 Twin Turbo from 2000 means it benefits the wonderfully dramatic Thomson design with a swooping front bumper and chunky rear wing, which just looks so right in Mustard Metallic. Couple that with a stacked history folder and just 38,087 miles on the clock, and you’ve got a car that’s going to have no trouble attracting bidders. The hammer ultimately fell at £37,520 including the buyer’s fee, which seems like a small price to pay for a well-cared-for 350hp V8 Esprit.
BMW M5 (E60), 2005, 81k miles - sold for £25,460*
We had not one, but two E60 BMW M5s go under the hammer last month and both went on to find new owners. One was this 2008 E61 Touring, which, with an impressive 103,244 miles covered and full service history, mustered a strong £23,638 including fees. The other is the E60 saloon you see here, and it includes something that might just come in handy for the next owner.
See, this 2005 car is still covered under a BMW extended warranty, which, if you know anything about the E60 M5, may be worth more than its weight in gold. Running a V10-engined executive saloon isn’t cheap, especially when said engine was inspired by the firm’s Formula 1 motors and, therefore, revved to a dizzying 8,250rpm. Clearly, these V10 M5s are proving hugely popular for bidders (we’ve sold four of them so far this year), so it comes as no great surprise that this example amassed 69 bids, with the last bidder bagging a warrantied V10 M5 for £25,460 fees included. So if you’ve got an E60 M5 - or anything with a V10 in it - and you need to move it on, you know where to go.
Porsche 911 (993) Carrera 2 Cabriolet, 1996, 76k miles - sold for £43,416*
Summer is well and truly behind us and autumn is nearly spent, too. And yet, there’s still a seemingly strong appetite for convertibles, whether it's people looking to get a head start on summer ’26 or brave buyers who don’t mind the wind in their hair being laced with rain or hail. October saw this E93 BMW M3, this M6 Convertible Competition, this Honda S2000 and many more drop tops find new owners, but the one that’s caught our eye is this 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet.
A 993 is always going to be a bidding magnet, especially one that’s finished in Midnight Blue with a matching dash. This one’s also manual, rear-wheel drive, and has a good, chunky history file filled with Porsche specialist invoices. A fantastic way to experience the last air-cooled 911, which attracted 68 bids when the hammer hit the gavel at £43,416 including fees. Evidently, people are still after convertibles despite the impending winter chill, and moving yours on would free up some cash to put towards your next dream car. Just sayin’…
