I recently subscribed to a UK VPN provider. Since doing so my Du internet has slowed right down.

Is this linked in any way? Meaning, can Du detect I use a VPN occasionally and as a result slow down my services?

I'm based in The Greens next to Tecom.

mad

Thanks.

Sill question number 1.

- you don't leave the VPN connected permanently do you?

this will slaughter it.

Visit link below

http://www.du.ae/en/support/HomeServices/speed-tes...

This will tell you whether you are getting what you pay for. NB plug the internet line straight from the wall to laptop if using a wireless router.

Restart your router whilst you're at it.

I have used a VPN for a while now, the internet (Du in Greens) does have it's slow days but when I did the above test with a Du rep on the line my download speed was actually above what I was paying for.

www.speedtest.net is good for a quick check.

Going through a VPN kills download and ping speeds.

If you are after a recommendation I use Overplay and am happy with it.

US$10 a month and you choose which country you connect to,

Had a minor issue with it a couple of weeks ago, their live chat support sorted it out straight away.

I only use the VPN when viewing BBC iPlayer.

Will do the speed test when I get home this evening.

Cheers Tiger.

When I last looked into it, I was reading a site and every VPN that got posted up got blocked by UAE regulator...

Most VPN sites worth their salt will need you to access them via VPN to sign up.

Or you can put https:// before the address which gets around some simple blocks.

I have my VPN online 24/7, and download through it, and it's been ripping along no problem in the last few weeks. Occasionally I have buffering from iPlayer / 4OD, but a disconnect/reconnect usually sorts that out no problem.

My mate has just reverted back to the same cisco router I use as he found the time capsule slow.

I use Overplay and have found it to be slow and cause buffering about 30% of the time. The download speed without VPN is really quick, but it strangles it to about 25% of the speed once it's turned on. I also use Apple Airport Extreme/express as my router.

I would be really interested to know which VPN you use thb? Maybe PM me if you can't write it on here. Thanks.
