Probably you’ll already be quite keen on the plans that Boreham Motorworks has, given it has promised to build fresh takes on both the Ford RS200 and Mk1 Escort. Two more iconic Blue Oval performance cars you could hardly hope to find. The official licensing agreement with Ford itself only lent the endeavour further credibility. Now Boreham has confirmed that it’s partnering with Alan Mann Racing - aka one of the most successful outfits ever to race Fords - to make the cars that are coming even more special.
Though not quite the coup it may first seem (because Alan Mann is part of the DRVN Automotive Group that Boreham is also bundled into), it’s not hard to be excited about the prospect of a race team of its calibre being involved with the resurrection of old Fords.
Officially AMR joins Boreham Motorworks as the ‘in-house high-performance division’, bringing together its expertise in motorsport with the craftsmanship and tech expected of a high-level restomod. It will also manage the Boreham High Performance Club, a members club for owners that will run exclusive events from next year.
Speaking of 2025, that’s when we can expect to see the first fruits of this new collaboration. No doubt AMR will already be helping out with the RS200 and Escort - the latter being perhaps the best-known racer seen in the red and gold of Alan Mann - but remember that Boreham promised more Fords would follow as well. Imagine a Mustang, for instance. We’re told to expect an announcement and reveal early in the new year.
Henry Mann, MD of Alan Mann Racing and Alan’s son, said: “We are incredibly excited to join Boreham Motorworks as its high-performance division. This allows us to not only preserve and celebrate Alan Mann Racing's rich heritage but also to bring it into a new era of innovation and customer experience. Together, we’ll continue to honour the spirit of Ford’s motorsport legacy while delivering high-performance product, events and experiences that capture the passion of racing enthusiasts worldwide."
All feels very fitting in the year that Alan Mann Racing celebrates its 60th anniversary. As part of this announcement, a documentary has been released that tells the story of the company, complete with some very illustrious names singing its praises. It’s very easy to be swept along with the romance of it all, watching Lotus Cortinas and early Escorts thrash around great tracks back in the day, and ramp up the excitement for what comes next. Bring on 2025.
