Evening All,
TVR S1, V6 2.8.
1)Steve Heath Manual quotes 15W-50 oil(typing from memory), does anyone have good advice on type of oil to be used on a 120K engine (good nick)? Recently bought Coma, but worried this is not that good.....Advice please welcome, I know this is an emotive subject so keep it concise !!!!!
2) Sheared a wheel stud last weekend on my rear drum brakes, can anyone advise where I can buy some NEW replacements studs from?
3) Wanting to convert from Drums on the Rear to discs, anybody got an idiots guide to what I need, where I can buy it from and what it would cost as the drums are shocking for stopping at the moment !!
Keep up the good postings......this is a good forum for TVR info.
Regards,
Chris (Still new to TVR ownership - but enjoying it so far) !!

For the oil IIRC it quotes 15W40 but this is quite expensive and more difficult to find. I have used 5W30 and found it good but gave low oil pressures and also had a tendency to leak easily. I have now moved to 15W50 and find this excellent, as for which make I believe you are better to use cheaper and change more frequently than expensive and change less frequently, I have used COMA with no problems
For the wheel studs if they are the short ones ford dealers stock them as do just about any motor factors as they are a standard Ford fit.
Converting to discs, unless you are going to track and race the car then my question would be why? The brakes are more than good enough in standard form for road and occasional track, if you want to upgrade slightly then you are better off IMHO increasing the front disc size to the 260mm discs off the XR4i.

I agree
unless using in competition or track then rear drums will be fine - if anything you could try uprated shoes - obviously along with uprated pads at the front
you could try (although I've not used)

ok I use mobile 1 0w40 (also in the bible) have been slated for it because it is very thin (my car has done 95k) however my oil pressure is now amazing! I have xr4 front brakes and hope to convert the rears soon, there are brackets avalible from kit car companys shouldnt be too hard as its basicaly sieara parts
Hi,
Just my experience but the Mobil 0W40 was terrible in my car. Oil pressure was poor and engine sounded tappety.
After lots of reading I settled on Millers Classic 20W50 as shown below.
Oil pressure is much better and the engine sounds much better with the thicker oil.
Highly recomended, from me anyway.

If the rear brakes aren't working properly there's something wrong with them. Perhaps you've got oil on the shoes or sticking hydraulics. I recommend stripping them down and clean/reassemble with new pads, flush the fluid, check for worn pivots etc. When working properly they should be quite capable of locking the rear wheels under heavy braking and I thought the brake balance on my S2 was pretty good.
