1996 sl 280

Hi my sl starts and generaly runs fine but sitting in traffic the idle speed runs up and down but dos, nt stall any advice please thanks

My SL did that and it was the air flow meter.You will have to get the codes checked at a Merc` specialist or a garage with the right diagnostic kit.I got a genuine Bosch unit from Euro Car Parts,its a simple job to fit but after you have to get the fault code cleared and the ECU reset.

Could very well be the MAF as above . This engine is also prone to the wiring loom to the throttle actuator going brittle . My 1996 C36 is being re-wired after a similar diagnosis ;I lived with the surge at idle for ages , but the car then developed a misfire under load which has turned out to be brittle wires with the insulation burned through .
