Anyone else been watching the repeats on Dave?

Never seen it before and its strangely compelling viewing. Its not belly laughing stuff but additive.

I'd heard nothing but good things about Spaced, and love the Pegg/Frost films - so I checked it out.

I watched the first 3 episodes. Maybe I just didn't "get it", but I thought it was tripe.

As I say though, most people rave about it.

If you 'get' the hundreds of pop culture references then its pure gold...but if you don't then i could see why you wouldn't like it.

Also, given that it was made over 10 years ago maybe there's a little bit of 'you had to be there at the time.' wink

Spaced is most excellent! As mentioned, it's of its time, but was a very refreshing way to do a comedy "sitcom", with the abrupt cuts, and subtle (and sometimes not so subtle...) spoofs and references making the view really pay attention so as to not miss anything. biggrin

I'm sorry but you need to take yourself back to the shop as you're clearly faulty.

EFA.

Spaced is definately a show that is of its time, and being of a certain age imho helps

All I can add is "Tyres!"

Loved it, so funny. Mike as security at the party was comedy gold.

Watched it back in the day, loved it, bought the DVDs and still watch it. Also I find myself saying lines like "skip to the end" which sadly most people don't get! Also discovered "Lemon Jelly" after hearing "The Staunton Lick" in the last episode.

This is (was) truly something special.

You need to be a bit of a film/tv geek to get most of the references, some of which are just inspired. An amazing soundtrack as well (unusual for a sitcom) Bluetones, Mr Scruff, Lemon Jelly, David Holmes, Mint Royale et al.

The second series is much better than the first in my humble opinion.

It would be interesting to see if they ever return to it with a third series or a special. Part of me wants them to and part of me wants it left well alone.

Fried Gold wink

I believe Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson have been asked on many occasions whether series 3 would happen, and the answer tends to be that as time goes on it gets harder to go back to it.
Personally, I don't think going back to see Tim,Daisy,Mike etc 15 years later would work now.

there is a soundtrack on Amazon.

Absolutely love it ! Re-watching series 2 at the moment and finding it even funnier this time round.

Also watching twenty-twelve at the moment with Jessica Stevenson in, she plays a great character in that as well.

I was discussing Spaced with a mate yesterday and we are both massive fans of it (at the time and umpteen times back on DVD) and we did establish that it is very much a, "had to be there at the time" thing. If you don't get all of the movie/tv/music references I guess it would leave you scratching your head a bit. For me, as a person of the same age as Simon Pegg & Jessica Stevenson and who clearly watched all the same movies and tv shows as them growing up, it is the funniest sitcom ever! Show it to my Dad however and he would substitute a favourite line and describe it as, "Spaced is a big pile of st!"

Someone said it's not laugh-out-loud stuff. My neighbour on a flight back from Argentina a few years ago would not agree with you on that!

The Kia Ora, Dark Star Comics and battlebots (War bd laugh) episodes of series 2 jump to mind.

I re-watched the first 2 episodes on 4OD last night, and once again thought it was tripe.

I'm not saying this to cause argument - just making sure that I'm not missing out on a great series.... does it get any better?

So far I've barely raised a smile at it - I haven't found it clever or full of cultural references as others have said. Just wondering if it had a slow start and gets better?

To be honest if you didnt like the first two you wont like it at all. I think you either "get" it or you wont

I'm not sure about that... I started by watching series 2 episode 2 (housemates stuck the DVD on, I walked in and slumped on the couch having no clue what it was), and then finishing series 2 before watching the rest, and I think I would have been left a bit cold if I'd started at the first episode.

I think as they got comfortable in the characters they were playing, the series got better and better...
