I've noticed many new and different iccle icons in the posts, but I can't see them when I go to "smiles legend" in the post reply section.

People are using icons hosted elsewhere and embedding them using the 'pic' tags.

Being a computer numptie, can I use the "Pistonhead" smilies elsewhere. If so, how?
BTW, thanks for the stickers Ted, smaller one now on the back of my electric wheelchair! Anyone got one on a slower vehicle?

Using smilies from one site on another isn't very fair on the source site. They are paying for the bandwidth and yet not getting the benefit of your visit properly.

Please bear that in mind when using 3rd party smilies here and if you plan on using PH smilies elsewhere.

Would be good to have some extra new icons though. I quite fancy one for taking cover, to go with one of my usual cheeky comments.

No problem, Ted. Didn't realise it might cause offence.

There are even sites, which intention is to offer smilies for admins and users as well.
If you click on a certain smily, the BB-Code appears in a special line to copy&paste.

Ted, please comment, if you like them to be used here, when they're not causing unwanted traffic.

Ted, Fair point about the smilies to and from third party sites! I'll stop that now!
But, I have just loaded up the Smiles Legend, and some of the new smilies like and are missing! This is the contents!
cool: rolleyes: mad: eek: confused: laugh: furious: idea: lick: smokin: angel: cry: hurl: shoot: beer: drink: evil: spin: rage: bandit: biglaugh: bounce: jester: nerd: read: smash: wobble: blah: nuts: silly: wavey: yum: clap: sleep: type: phone: argue: punch: tank: shout: xmas: readit: vomit: teacher: hippy: sperm: ears: curse: blabla: byebye: hehe: nono: rotate: censored: banghead:
(the Edit removed the front set of : from each smilie!)
The new users to the site won't know about some of the ones you've added! etc!!!
Just thought I'd point that one out.....

Cheers
Stuart!

p.s. refreshing the legend doesn't do anything at my end, gives me a blank page for bit while it hunts out the new one, but it comes back the same!!

No objection to that - just raising the point that it's courteous to consider if sites are happy for external embedding.

Addition:
This is from one of these sites:

quote:
Copyright Notice:
1.) I own the copyright to all the smileys in the cwm's smilies section of this page.
2.) If you wish to use those smileys on your website you must ask permission (i will ask you to put a link to my site somewhere we can agree on so as to give credit where it is due) You don't need to ask permission to just post the smileys on your favorite board
3.) All the rest of the smileys are either copyrighted by someone else or are public domain.
4.) If you see a smiley you have created and wish for me to take it off or give you credit, please email me and i'll do it ASAP =)
5.) All the coding & other content is my work as well.
6.) The following applies to all of the smilies:
"These pictures are copyrighted by their creators. They may not be used in violation of those copyrights, and specifically may not be sold, redistributed electronically or by physical media, placed on any web site that requires membership fees, used by any commercial entity or individual making a project-for-hire without permission. Distribution privileges granted to this web site do not grant distribution privileges to any other entity."

So, for the admin, I was not right.

OK!
Maybe there is interest for a link which the above copyright is referring to:
http://mysmilies.com/

Ted, delete this post, whenever things start to get out of control!

Strangely enough, there was another smiley thread recently - www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=24&h=&t=7517

Ted - please can we have an updated list and some more smilies ? I reckon if you ask for PH smilies, the PHers will happily contribute.

Is there any chance of a "scoff" icon, I suppose it ought to involve pies ?
