Why isn't 909 five live on FM?

[Ruskie]

Prompted by my cars inability to pick up MW clearly, why is it not on FM frequency?

Because FM needs many, many more transmitters to cover the country, meaning the number of frequencies is limited. Basically to wedge another national station in you'd need to get rid of something else.

Radio 1 could go as I never listen to it.
