Battlefield 2 - help needed

Hi, I thought I'd try here before I sign up at a battlefield forum..
I've just got a new laptop and loaded up BF2. The game loads up fine and I have all the latest patches and updates. Two problems..
1. When it loads, its not full screen, I have black spaces eiter side of the game screen left and right
2. If I try and play a game online I after a second or two I get kicked by punkbuster for a "service communication error". Any ideas?
Could these be related to the fact that this is laptop is running windows 7 64bit as I understand it was designed for 32.

1. Are you sure you've updated to version 1.50, this patch enables widescreen support.
If so, have you set the resolution correctly in the game?
2. For this problem, you'll probably have to update punkbuster. No problems with regards to the 32bit/64bit thing, I've run BF2 on 64bit since Vista came out.
Go here and download pbsetup. Instructions on how to do it are on there too, but its pretty easy and self explanatory.

If you can't find your resolution with the 1.50 patch, try this http://www.widescreengaming.net/wiki/Battlefield_2
No problems here with Win 7 64bit on widescreen desktop so it's something that can be fixed. Would it be too obvious to ask if you have the correct video resolution set in game and restarted it to check?
And when you are ready for new maps/mods I can recommend the following. Easy Google search to find.

I've finished the res thing and set that up right. Downloaded pbsetup and subsequent updates but I'm still getting the same message, any ideas? If so, have you set the resolution correctly in the game?

done, thanks Okay I have had a look on the PB website for some advice and found this that seems to be the issue i'm getting
[i]I get kicked a lot by PunkBuster for Service Communication errors like "initialization failed" or "heartbeats stopped", how do I fix that?
If you run some type of personal firewall or security software, make sure that you configure it to fully allow our services, especially PnkBstrA.exe. These kicks are most often caused by our PnkBstrA.exe service failing to properly install our PnkBstrB.exe service during gameplay. Also, several Windows 7 users have reported that the following steps corrected the issue for them: 1) login as an Administrator user, 2) open Windows Explorer and browse to c:\windows\system32 (or wherever the windows folder is on your machine) - note: if you run Windows 7 64 bit, you need to browse to c:\windows\syswow64 instead, 3) scroll down and find PnkBstrA.exe, 4) right-click PnkBstrA.exe and choose Properties, 5) click the Compatiblity tab, 6) click the button at the bottom of the window that reads "Change settings for all users", 7) click the checkbox for "Run this program as an administrator", 8) click the "Ok" buttons to accept the changes and get back out.[/i]

Can you see it running in task manager? (I have never used W7 so don't know if this exists still.)
PS I have got a new challenge - I now try to kill people only using C4. Last night, two people were hiding behind a planter so I flanked them, dropped C4 behind them, ran away, pressed button. BOOM!

Wait a sec: pnkbstrA should be running ALL the time. pnkbstrB launches when BF2 launches.
I found that AVG and ZoneAlarms were awful with BF2/Punkbuster. Get rid of them if you're running them.
