Online Trading

Anyone know of an online trading company that doesn't need a £1000 or similar deposit.

I only want to play around with £50 or something to get an idea of how the stocks work.

What would be a good way of getting started in online trading?

Any good online guides that are recommended?

I dont actually know. Paypal springs to mind but im not sure what the certain guidelines to using it are.

Yeah i've looked at etrade...

i'm just asking the community for recommended sites that fit my criteria in my original post

I also don't know the watchdogs etc and what sites are respected and which sites people have had problems with.

I personally use Comdirect for my dealing. To set-up an account is free and all trades are £12.50. TBH It's not worth investing something like £50, as it will cost you £25 just to buy in and out of your shares, which means you'd need a 50% rise just to cover costs. Set-up a Comdirect watchlist instead and pretend that you really have invested money in the stocks. I have a massive watch list and kick myself every time I see how much some have risen in the past few months.

By the time you have bought and sold a share (£12 to buy, another £12 to sell), that is £24, or a 24% gain on £100, hence not worth dealing in lots of less than £500.

So speaks a brother.

Look for some 'fantasy share dealing' eg the times runs one as soemwhere to cut your teeth
