Copper based greases and aluminium is a no no. So depends on what wheel would be made of.

Does the copper eat into the alloy ?

Only apply to the spigot,ie,the hole in the wheel and the sticky out bit of the hub,never the mounting face that the studs/bolts go through.I've used copperslip on alloy wheels every day at work for 25 years plus with no problems,however there is an aluminium based anti sieze compound available as an alternative.
