What Ultra Wide Lens?

This is a what lens question im afraid.

I currently have a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L on a Canon 7d which I love, also have a Tamron 10-22 3.5 which I bought on a whim and think was a mistake.

I find the Tamron is very soft in the corners and has some extreme distrotion going on.

Im thinking of trading it in and getting either

Canon 10-20mm 3.5
Tokina 11-16 2.8
Sigma 10-20mm

Anything others Im missing or any advice from people who have used the above? Or any tips to maybe get the best from the Tamron?

I couldnt recoment the sigma 10-20. I have one, its not great in the corners.

Pick from 11-16 or sigma 8-16 if you dont want to use filters.

I have the Sigma 10-20mm and really like it, however as with most UWAs there is really noticable vignetting, particularly when using filters. I find I need to either crop or set at no wider than around 14mm to eliminate the issue.

I was happy enough with my 10-20 on an 8mp 350d, it does get shown up with a 7D.

Tokina's apparently very good, the guy I went on a landscape trip with said it was one of the best wide zooms on the market.

In terms of pre optical ability, best to worst:

sigma 8-16
tokina 11-16
canon 10-22
sigma 10-20f4.5-5.6
sigma 10-20f3.5

The 8-16 realy does kick the crap out of everything else in terms of pure optical ability. It scores higher than the new canon 70-200f2.8L IS mkII.

I havnt seen that many great pics from it yet tho and its going to cost a lot if you want filters.

Can't comment on the alternatives but Canon 10-22 is great. No vigneting with Hoya pro digital filters (very thin mounts), Cokin P series holder will vignette at the wide end.

I've got a Tokina 10-17 which I use exclusively underwater. Of course, it doesn't work anymore cos it's all wet but it did take very nice pictures

If I am not mistaken Tokina have stopped making them, though.

I also have the 70-200 2.8 L Mk2, If its supposed to rate optically better then that Ill definately check it out. I imagine things are getting pretty weird at 8mm though?

Yep, shooting that wide and making it look good can be very difficult.
