Apologies for the Daily Mail link. That's hardly bloody "zero tolerance", that's just what being at school should be like FFS.

You might think so, it would appear others don't.
Ok, let them teach.

However, it could be argued that such action would prevent things from getting to a stage where

This happens

That pissed me off too. I vaguely recall teachers doing something called "telling pupils off".

Did anyone hear one of the governors interviewed on R5 yesterday morning? A complete wet blanket. Apparently pupils are allowed phones in classrooms because 3% of them are carers for relatives. Therefore if a relative was to need a carer there must a way to communicate with them. They can't confiscate phones or prevent them being in class due to 'human rights'

However did we cope before mobiles? Oh yes, school switchboards!

Yep, I heard that. With leadership like that it is no wonder that so many pupils are being failed by our education system. Listening to him making excuses for bad behaviour was infuriating, fortunately
Most of the listeners seemed to agree but unfortunately they are the sort of people who aren't running schools

Punishment for wearing odd socks, which aren't really visible anyway, or possessing a mobile phone are a bit extreme, but the plan in principle makes sense. Some of the stories these days about what kids get up to are shocking.

Actually it's not just chavs that moan.
Mrs. WG, now thankfully retired, had two secondary Headships.
The first an inner city school, the second mainly populated by middle class students.
Little difference in parental moaning.
Of course, Headteachers and teachers are not "allowed" to really challenge parents.
To ask them to undertake the role that parenting means.
Now, why is that?

Eta, in both schools, because they were in university cities, the best students were Chinese, the children of parents working as lecturers or studying at those universities.

Karris Hanslip, 13, has now been taken out of school by mother Ruth.

Clearly detention has had a devastating effect on poor Karris's appetite.

Visible mobile/Ipod/Mp3 in corridor is a little extreme, if they are not in class then why can't they listen to music or text a friend?

However, rudeness, lateness, breach of uniform, refusal to follow staff instructions etc are all fair game, as is misbehaving on the way to school including buses - I bet that will crack down on bullying.

If that's true I'm stunned to be honest, truly stunned. Why do they need phones on in class anyway? If parents or others need to talk to them then they should be going via the school office.....Jezzarse H Christ, MORONS are now running the asylum !!!!

Teachers protesting over bad behaviour for poor disciplineeek......what the hell is going on with this country that has led to this utter stupidness.

Granted, I wasn't the best behaved pupil in class but I knew where the line was and when to toe it .....where's the line these days, is it a free for all and anything goes ? it certainly seems like it.

Because banning electronic devices in school limits cyber bullying, pornography and theft of said devices.

This woman should get an OBE!

Rules - Clear and concise. Irrelevent whether you agree with them or not, they are there. Where schools fall down is having numerous rules which are not enforced - This is where they lose the respect of the pupils (same at home by the way).

If there is bullying, then she can take action against it anyway can she not?
If there is theft, well, the police should take action?

What's the betting that there is no Mr Heffalump and that Mrs Heffalump does whatever Karris tells her as she is weak, frightened and doesn't realise that she is ultimately sending her child to the same early grave that she is.

Why is it that these angry mothers who appear whenever their is a school trying to reverse the decades of rot within are fat and stupid and often seemingly single?

Does rotting fanny batter stuck in fat clefts and rolls cause a massive slow down in brain functionality?
