Ive managed to source the Granada 887/888 and 4 pot cossie callipers

I can get the 4 pots to fit with a little machining, ive used the search button (as some cant seem to find it)

Ive read there heavier than the granada brakes, and not worth the grief, BUT it turns out the granada weigh 10.6lb's and the 4 pots weight 10lb's so I no idea where people get there info from?

Has any one done a back to back test to find out which is the superior?

My gut feeling it the 4 pots will be better

But has any one got them to fit? and tried and tested?

I do have a plan C but that will need new wheels

Thanks

Alex

Ignore the rust, that wont take 5 mins to get off

Plan C involes 911 turbo brembo calipers and a 330mm disc, and team dynamics pro race 3's

Only problem with that is, the missus wants me to go Eygpt

And there both going to cost about a grand,

Any views on the calipers in question?

Thanks

Provided the calipers can be bolted up to the mounts and keep the same centreline or utilise discs with a matching centreline then their is nothing wrong with them at all. The amount of un-neccesary over braked road cars with massively expensive brakes on Pist up heads always amazes me.

The only downside with your choice of caliper is weight, but it looks no heavier than the original. and no doubt your conversion will be a damnsight cheaper than some AP's discs and bells!!

My 300hp race car uses 2 pot calipers and re-machined cossy discs (£24 ea)
The bigger and more expensive is better brigade should think about that!

Big expensive race conversions often lack dust seals and never get warm enough on a road car. a 2 / 4 piston caliper will always give a better feel than a sliding caliper set up on any car.

Thanks for your comments,

I have been worried about over doing the brakes, it locks up bad enough with standard

So I take it, that's a vote on the four pots?

Thanks
Alex

Hi Alex
What machining is needed to get the 4 pots on standard uprights? I was going to do this a while ago but was told they need major brackets making or cossie uprights.
I was a bit miffed at the time because the 4 pot is meant to be a very efficient caliper.
The 887/888s I used work ok and are powerful but can be a little snatchy. The 4 pots are meant to be much more progressive.

Andy.

Either thin down the caliper mounts 3mm or make a wheel spacer to fit behind the disc 3mm

It might be 4mm I will have to check when I get home

Either way you do it, it's no more than £50 worth of maching

So the bolt spacing is the same? I did search on here at the time but all people were saying is they are not very good and too heavy.
Machining the faces down is no problem as I'm taking delivery of my new toy Thursday; a Bridgeport CNC mill to go in my new workshop!
Watch this space for goodies for sale soon and any suggestions welcome. It's been a while since I've used one and need the practice!!

If you want I can bring the car and callipers down so you can see what needs doing? and make a set for yourself

Id would suggest making a spacer for the disc to come out

I filed down A flat a mm or 2

But if you machine the surface across down to much B would get thinner to say 5mm? but I think it would be strong enough

I'd be interested in seeing that yes. I'd prefer the idea the idea of machining the disc rather than introducing a spacer in. I think the latter could easily cause disc run out issues if all the surfaces aren't perfectly flat.

You couldn't machine the disc because, your trying to achieve the opposite but either bringing the disc out or the calliper in,
I've ordered a couple of spacers for a £6 and going to see if I get any where doing it that way

I knew what you meant about the spacers but all the faces have to be nigh on perfect or the disc will feel warped. Have you gone for longer wheel studs as well? Just a thought if you are bringing the disc out.

I cant understand these big brake kits, my Chim has stock size (comically small) vented/drilled discs and greenstuff pads, it has great pedal feel and what I can only describe as awesome stopping power, it can do 3 or 4 back to back 100-0 full bore 'tyres wailing' stops without fading at all, sure they smell a bit after the third time inside a minute or two, but so will any brakes being worked that hard...

My car has 17" wheels with wide Toyo Proxes all round and it's almost impossible to lock them up without first making you try to headbutt the windscreen!

I really cant see any need (other than vanity)outside track or competition use for vastly bigger brakes cumon the car barley weighs a ton..

When I firstly bought my car the brakes were shockingly bad. The pads were on their limit and the discs were warped. I read about the 887/888 conversion and when I found a pair of calipers for £60 it seemed silly not to get them as I had to replace the discs and pads anyway and there were no other costs involved except 4 washers. My car is a pre face lift with the 240mm discs and the fact Tvr changed them for 260mm ones at a later date speaks volumes. I wouldn't spend hundreds on brembo/ap 6 pots and 300+mm discs but at an extra £60 for 283mm discs and much bigger calipers it was a no brainer! I also track day my car and after 15 minutes I can feel my brakes going off so the old 240mm ones wouldn't last 5 minutes!

I'm not changing them because I need more stopping power, I'm changing them because I want better feel to avoid lock ups, less fade and because they caught on fire last year

Caught on fire?? I've had mine glowing but never had flames.
Good man you are obviously getting the most out of them! Haha.

I had a guy jumped out his 4x4 with a fire extinguisher at a set of lights, and put mine out, I suspect they were glowing with some crap off the road that caught fire,

Either way they got to go!
