folks, I have an Iomega Zip 100 drive, and typically password protect all my discs.

Last year I moved companies and returned my laptop (running NT4) and bought a desktop (running XP Home). The password protected discs will now not unlock (and I have lots of them). The drive is working fine as unprotected discs are ok.

Is this connected to an operating system change? Does anyone have any thoughts on how to get around this.

Cheers,

I believe you need the Iomega software to unlock the disks.

Just had a text chat with Iomega tech support and they think it is connected to the Anti-Virus software I am running. They asked me to:

* uninstall iomegaware
* uninstall the antivirus software
* reintall iomegaware
* unlock the discs
* reinstall the antivirus software.

What's the betting I do all that only to find it makes no bloody difference!

As far as I am aware you MUST use the IomegaWare software to unlock the disks...

Indeed, the protection on Zip discs is software and not hardware related.

I have just gone through a lengthy session installing/uninstalling my anti-virus software, and installing/uninstalling various versions of the iomegaware software, without luck!

A very long text-chat with iomega tech support exentually led to the agent admitting that this was a known issue with XP and Win2000, and that they "are working with Microsoft to release a resolution".

mmm - 2000 and XP are years old now and they still haven't sorted this. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Basically, if I can't get NT, ME or 98 to unlock my discs I am screwed! Thanks Iomega!

Classic case of focussing on new product sales and not on ensuring exising products are supported through operating system / service pack changes.

I have literally spend hundreds on the drive and media and have vital data backed-up on the discs that I cannot access.

THANKS IOMEGA.
