Steering Couplings

Hi, I have just had my steering rack refurbed by these guys http://www.steering-racks.co.uk/ brilliant job good service and relativley local to me in Birmingham.
While I was at it I ordered new steering uj's from a well know supplier as the old ones were really stiff, the problem I am having is that there is "play" in both uj's and on the upper one the little swing bracket wouldn't clear the triangular sierra shaft as there was not enough play in the little bracket (ie it was too tight on the hinge pin) the supplier has been brilliant and they are on their way back to them so I am not grumbling about them, BUT has any else had a similar problem ?

Hi,

I have just been told my S2 is going to fail its MOT as the steering column UJ's are shot. Can you
tell me where you sourced these from or can anyone else suggest a source ?
How easy are they to replace ?

Very easy, just done mine. TVRcarparts or rallysport sell them. make sure you specify the model correctly as two different fittings for the lower one. Right hand road Wheel off 13mm and 10mm spanners is all you need. Make sure you keep the UJ's in phase and that the steering wheel remains centred. Andy

I have to say I was only changing mine as I'd had the steering rack refurbished I wanted to make sure the rest of the steering was fine,Once I'd got the old uj's off I couldn't believe how stiff they were,they were almost siezed so no wonder the steering was very heavy, so I guess the lesson there is to take them off regularly and make sure they move freely.

Might be worth fitting a gaiter and packing with grease
