Very much so. I don't play them any more apart from firing up Battlefield 1942 or Vietnam to LAN play now and then. The newer ones just don't feel as fun to play.

I really want a new Battlezone. (Activision 1998) FPS, tank sim and RTS all rolled into one super duper game with a clever interface.

I'd also like a new Wing Commander game. With Mark Hamill and the Kilrathi! I don't care if it's linear. I enjoyed the "interactive movie".

Homeworld 3 is long overdue.

I loved the Wing Commander games and an up to date version would be great. How about a new Elite or X-Wing with modern graphics and online.

I think modern FPS have concentrated on the multiplayer aspect and thrown together a story just so they can charge more.

Have a look at X3, it's a little like Elite, but it's not online. There is a lot to do in this game, trading, mining, missions etc in addition to the storyline.

Not played that game still. I am stuck in an infinite loop on Battlefield 2. There are just so many different ways of killing people beyond the obvious. Run them down, car bomb them, shock-paddle them, knife them, crash a helicopter into them, drop a crate on them...

FPS games are easy to build since there are so many FPS engines around. Also, they enable game makers to use a classical (i.e. novel or film type) narrative.

its always the same story

xyz faction/splinter group/rogue general threatens a country called america or one that looks similar to america

and for some reason they send 6 men only to defend the safety from a possible super threat

especially the COD's - not really enjoyed one since maybe cod 2 or 4

6... no wonder you're bored. Stop playing games for 10 year olds and try 32 players against 32 players.

Try World of Tanks (www.worldoftanks.eu). I think the balance of sim/arcade is sort of similar..... the graphics have improved somewhat )

You have to bear in mind that genres come into trend. Remember in the mid 90's that it was all about Beat em ups? FPS games lend themselves well to MP games so therefore work well. Naturally the game makers will target an area that will be profitable. Just be grateful for FPS otherwise we would all be playing WOW! Erk the thought makes me shudder

Graphics are lovely!!!

But I just found that...far...far to difficult to get into! I really wanted to get into it...but there is so little in the way of tutorials in it that it is completely overwhelming.

I havent really enjoyed an FPS since BF1942 with the Desert Combat mod, now that was fun. I had a pretty good aim with the RPG-7 especiallly against helicopters.

This. I've tried twice as I love this kind of game but I can't for the life of me work out how. (this is X3:Reunion)

The first time I couldn't even work out how to finish the tutorial. The second time I managed the tutorial but had no idea what to do next....

such a shame frown

its amazing how a huge game like elite: frontiers fitted onto one disc

yet they struggle to make a modern day equivalent

i think they try to make it too clever for its own good. too much ruins it

Me too! I have REALLY tried to get into this and have spent hours on it. But that still isn't nowhere near enough - still seemingly impenetrable - it is a shame. I simply do not have the hours spare to invest in it. A simple hand holding tutorial would have gone a long way to address this, and perhaps help sales, instead of pandering the hard-core few.

ETA - World of Tanks is pure gaming genius - try it!

I played all the X games, part of the enjoyment for me was that you didn't have a clue what you had to do, you just had to muddle round and try to figure things out. So when you finally do get your corvette with a couple of fighters on board it's so much more worthwhile!

Haven't played a FPS for more than 10 mins since Quake 3, they all seem so slow.

It'll still be free to play.... it's just going to get really slow to make progress about tier 4/5.

I've already paid smile
