Will Sigma 70-300mm DG Macro fit Nikon AND Canon?

This might sound a daft question, but will this lens, which I've used on my NikonD40, also fit on a Canon body?

I'm selling it and someone on eBay asked if this is the case. I assumed it's only for use on Nikons, but a review on camerahacker.com states:

'The lens includes a mount which suits Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Minolta and Pentax'.

Don't want to give someone duff information

No. It will only fit on a Nikon. The confusion probably comes from the fact that they make various versions to fit different systems.

You could use an adapter but that would disable autofocus.

I thought you could put a Canon lens on a Nikon body (with auitable adaptor) but not the other way round. Anyway, as Rob says you'll lose AF and metering and probably shag the far point because the lens isn't in the right place.

Canon register distance (sensor -> mount) is quite small , to put a canon lens on a nikon you would have to have it inside the lens mount.

This makes a canon a great body for mounting other lenses on, it takes just about anything with an adapter (with no optics), except old canon FD mount lenses!

Yes, that has optics...

There are FD mount adapters without optics but you loose infinity focus.

The ones with optics usually intrude on whatever image quality remains from your FD lens.

Useful with macro tho.

I always buy Nikon fit lenses so haven't had to try
