I'm gradually putting my DVD's onto a big USD hard drive to plug into the PS3. Can I set it up so that the PS3 shows a JPG of the film cover instead of the ugly grey "filmstrip" icon. I have tried putting a jpg with the same title as the film in the folder, that doesn't work (eg I have "Gladiator.wmv" and "Gladiator.jpg" in the "VIDEOS" folder).

I thought I read about a way of doing it but I may have made it up . . .

Not sure myself tbh but I hope this helps a little. Try http://www.ps3mediaserver.org/forum/viewtopic.php?... which seems to be a similar topic but hopefully you can make more sense of the 2nd to last comment.

Hmmm. I've seen it done; I was surprised a few weeks back when something I'd dowloaded showed up on the PS3 with appropriate icons.

IIRC, the only thing I could see was that the download had a 'folder.jpg' in the folder along with the rest of the files (It was a 10 episode tv series, each episode had the same icon).

The jpg was literally just called folder.jpg

With a media server you can display jpg thumbnails, with the files directly on the ps3 it will play the first 5 seconds or so in a loop.

I don't know if you can have it display a thumbnail if the files are on a seperate drive but i suspect not.
