BA cabin crew have voted by more than eight to one in favour of further industrial action. Skip related content

The period of industrial action has not yet been decided, but a walkout around the date of the Royal Wedding is believed to be likely.

Sky's business presenter Joel Hills, who first revealed the outcome of the vote, said: "Unite now has 28 days within which to announce strike dates before the mandate expires.

"It must give the company at least one week's notice."

According to Unite's general secretary Len McCluskey, the vote shows that cabin crew "remain determined to win justice".

"We urge BA's boardroom to see this as a clear message that they must think again about how to regain the trust and confidence of a significant part of their cabin crew operation," he said.

"We continue to be in discussions with the company to find a solution to this long-running dispute."

Whats wrong with these people?

So who did UNITE/BASSA allow to vote this time?

Thank God I fly Swiss out of Brum.

As a frequent flier who relies on regular reliable air transport to get home, to work and travel for work I wouldnt touch BA with a bargepole right now. The consequences of having to use them and they couldnt provide me with the service I need would be fairly drastic.

Before this ballot, the union pretty much admitted they wouldn't call a strike but just go on threatening to. Because they know BA will simply call their bluff (the number of yes voters has almost halved since the first ballot).

People are voting with their feet then!

Might be more work for you, which is unfortunate, but at least it'll teach the Unions something...they're not more powerful than the customer!

I hope your right, Ninja! Against my better judgement, SWMBO booked tickets to Austria for both of us to see her parents that week!

Another nail in the coffin of a former great, now reduced to this. It's a shame, as there was a time I'd gladly pay more to fly BA business class. Now I'm happy to pay more to use their competitors and avoid them - I vowed never to use them again some 2-3 years ago and have yet to renege on this, nor will I unless absolutely necessary. I'm sure I'm not the only person to have do so, nor will I be the last.

This is a war that can't be won, as long as the unions are allowed to hold the board room to ransom in this manner, BA will suffer as a whole. The only possible positive outcome that I can see, is the potential for a few selfish voters to learn their lesson the hard way when they're looking for a job in an already competitive and saturated marketplace.

I really hope it is little more than posturing.

Did I just see that the Spanish Air Traffic Controllers called their threatened Easter strike off on the 24th?

This really pains me as the route I travel frequently the BA option is clearly the convenient one in terms of times and airports, and incidentally usually the most economical when all matters taken into account.

Any alternatives either involve flight times which are inconvenient and incur lost time or a night extra away, or are not direct flights, thus time (and luggage) lost during transfers, or significant extra time spent by their use of airports which are a long way from the city they claim to serve. O'Leary take note.

It's not helped by my patience finally having been worn thin to a single atom layer by LHR BA cabin crew and I find that whilst many are still fine, the sour faced mainly older end just beckon to be punched in the kisser.

But then I'm not on a cycle nor wearing purple leggings, and if I pissed on the seat I'd have to sit in it, so that's no solution.

I shouldn't sweat it too much. The big difference this time is that BA has now merged with Iberia. That's an awful lot of extra planes and people BA can call upon. I'd be surprised if there's anywhere near as much impact as before.

I have to say that I fly BA a lot and on some routes have got to know the staff over the years. I like flying BA.

I stuck with BA during the last load of strikes. I didn't agree with the staff but I made allowances and let bygones be bygones.

However, I've almost had enough. I'm at the point where I will struggle to hold my tongue onboard.

I'm just on the edge of thinking that these greedy, selfish, feckless tts need to be binned and replaced with some younger and more grateful human beings.

But then, I like BA because the old munters and queens are very good at what they do and without recruiting from Cathay or Emirates it's a struggle to find competant people among the British youth.

We are off to Dubai just before Easter. Took a decision not to fly BA due to the danger of industrial action. FLying Royal Brunei instead.

This about sums my position up too.

Aiui part of the latest dispute is that previously if they had to spend a night away they got an allowance per night. Not sure if that varied according to country / location.

Anyway they got the allowance whether they spent it or not, no receipts required.

Now BA is asking them to provide receipts of what they spend and there is on top an allowance per night for which they don't have to supply receipts along HMRC guidelines again aiui.

We're off to New York and Washington for a week over Easter and the wedding, decided against BA due to the constant threat of strikes. Glad we went Virgin now.

That is precisely what the 'New Fleet' cabin-crew programme is about.

The writing is on the wall for the strikers, and any industrial action now is purely a vindictive act to try and hurt the company one more time before they're shown the door.

Ok i am not BA in any way but i can assure you that anyone booked to fly during any period of IA will fly regardless of IA.

Bassa and the strike movement are dead in the water and it has already been acknowledged by the idiots at bassa who have effectively stated outright that they are going to ballot and call strike dates with no intention of actual strikes so as to keep customers away from BA.

The only problem is that BA can and will operate pretty much as normal during any IA even if they follow through with strikes as they have spent the last year+ training volunteer cabin crew and new crew who will be able to cover for any staff who strike.
Bassa have also talked of guerilla tactics of having staff pretend they will be going into work and then not actually turning up for shifts however BA have a plan to counter that sort of tactic.

My real hope here is that bassa and the hardcore strikers will go on strike and BA then finds the strike to be illegal and this time fires a load of people which they can now afford to do.
Quite simply due to Bassa's mismanagement BA could have fired tons of cc the last time a strike was called but instead did the decent thing and declared the strike illegal and pushed for a reballot under different grounds to protect the very people who seek to destroy them.

It is sad that any staff member should lose their job however the real culprit behind it all is the union BASSA and if their cc union members cannot see the lies that bassa have told then sadly i think they deserve to lose their jobs.
