Funilly enough, I decided to have a go this weekend and have been virtually living on them since.
I like these:

Also, these are generally very good indeed: http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/chocolate-covered... Particularly using a frozen banana which turns the whole thing into a thick creamy milkshake type thing.
A couple of things to note though; I went shopping specifically and spent more than I would on a week's shopping and came away with only ingredients for these things. Fresh fruit and veg (especially if you're stocking up on strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants etc) adds up very quickly. Especially when it all has a shelf life of a few days at most. And although seemingly healthy, it's very easy to end up eating/drinking huge amounts of sugar from the fruits.

Oh wow, they look brilliant thanks - wouldn't have thought of putting things like oats in. A friend mentioned tofu as well, but I think that might be a bit far...
I went shopping this lunchtime and you are right it does add up! I've bought some frozen fruit as well as the fresh which seems to be a bit cheaper.
Good point about the sugars - I think it's easy to think of them as a drink rather than a meal, so I will try and watch that I don't do that.

Sainsburcurrently has an offer on frozen fruit mixes- basically mixes of raw fruits (ie banana/strawbs or Blueberries etc etc) chopped into chunks as necessary.
They are cheap, and perfect for a smoothie- because they are frozen you get a really nice thick cold smoothie and you don't need to add ice cubes which just melt and thin the smoothie out.
Frozen Yoghurt works quite well too for making smoothies cold and thick.
