An MP is complaining about BBC bias....

"Tamar's sister, Hadas, three months old, had also been killed. Her head had been sawn off."

from the Telegraph..

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/bbc/...

Who is Tamar Fogel? The chances are that you will have no idea. She is a 12-year-old girl who arrived home late on Friday, March 11, to discover her family had been slaughtered. Her parents had been stabbed to death; the throat of her 11-year-old brother, Yoav, had been slit. Her four-year-old brother, Elad, whose throat had also been cut, was still alive, with a faint pulse, but medics were unable to save him. Tamar's sister, Hadas, three months old, had also been killed. Her head had been sawn off.

There were two other Fogel brothers sleeping in an adjacent room. When woken by their big sister trying to get into a locked house, Roi, aged six, let her in. After Tamar discovered the bodies, her screaming alerted their neighbour who rushed in to help and described finding two-year-old Yishai desperately shaking his parents' blood-soaked corpses, trying to wake them up.

I found out about the barbaric attack not on BBC news, but via Twitter on Monday. I followed a link there to a piece by Mark Steyn entitled "Dead Jews is no news'. Horrified, I went to the BBC website to find out more. There I discovered only two stories: one a cursory description of the incident in Itamar, a West Bank settlement, and another focusing on Israel's decision to build more settlements, which mentioned the killings in passing.

As the mother of three children, one the same age as little Elad, who had lain bleeding to death, I was stunned at the BBC's seeming lack of care. All the most heart-wrenching details were omitted. The second story, suggesting that the construction announcement was an act of antagonism following the massacre, also omitted key facts and failed to mention the subsequent celebrations in Gaza, and the statement by a Hamas spokesman that "five dead Israelis is not enough to punish anybody".

There were more details elsewhere on the net: the pain and hurt, for example, of the British Jewish community at the BBC's apparent indifference to the fate of the Fogels. The more I read, the more the BBC's broadcast silence amazed me. What if a settler had entered a Palestinian home and sawn off a baby's head? Might we have heard about it then? On Twitter, I attacked the UK media in general, and the BBC in particular. I considered filing a complaint.

and more.

Not being funny, but this would appear to have no relation to the conflict over Palestine - certainly it doesn't mention anyone as the murderer in the Telegraph article.

So effectively it's just a particularly gruesome domestic murder unless shown to be otherwise. And we don't by any means see all of those on the news. Go to your favourite news aggregation service and type "murder" in and see how depraved and evil the world is.

she considered filing a complaint?

laugh

All sorts of nasty stuff goes on every day. Infact, I'm sure far worse stuff happens in other countries that doesn't make it on to the news in this country.

Ah, thought that last paragraph was your summary, so changed it to 'she' for the woman who wrote the article.

Because countries that are at war with each other are always upset when citizens of the opposing country die, aren't they?

I will be rightly outraged if this is something done by Hamas, but there isn't any evidence of that at the moment.

Every murder on planet earth isn't going to be covered by the BBC.

After living in the States, I honestly find it strange that certain murders are national news for weeks here, as we are currently experiencing, although cute middle-class white girls are normally the ones getting blanket coverage

The BBC's reporting of anything relating to Israel is hugely biased. There is almost always a pro-Palestinian or anti-Israeli slant to some degree or other. As ever, it isn't the what the articles say directly, but the language that is used. There are plenty of examples here.

Compare this with the very vague and unreal threat of radiation which is getting massive press, or the loss of +- 20K japanese souls ? Or the uprisings in libya or syria ? Unless it is a politician's or celebrity's family getting slaughtered, they won't make the news at the moment.

Nice rhetorical topic, too.

It's disgusting that I didn't hear about a local murder in a news report on the other side of the world.

Just shows the bias in the media against whatever thing I am making a point about.

I'm not sure if it is BBC "bias" really - as far as I am aware it hasn't been reported on Sky, ITV, or any other channels in the UK.

I suspect that the bias is stronger on the other side.

Personally I am proud that our main media entity has not subscribed to the usual course.

A terrorist attack I believe, which would normally attract some coverage in the media, particularly when it is so gruesome.

Why would terrorists attack just one family ? and also try to wipeout the entire family and not anyone else within the building.
Also why would they use knives and such, this does not seem like a terrorist attack more like some sort of vendetta or family feud.

There was a triple murder in Sydney today.

Was it reported on the BBC?

No. Didn't think so.

I understand Colonel Gaddafi has a similar view of their coverage of Libya so you are among friends!

Or maybe the BBC is neutral and the rest of the media (much of it Jewish owned or controlled) is pro-Israel or anti-Palestinian?
