The M1 past Meadowhall in Sheffield got seriously clogged up today, due to an horrific accident on the slip road - some poor woman, in what was once possibly an old style red Nisssan Micra, was shunted from behind, by a lorry whose driver was probably not paying attention, and she was smashed into a lorry in the queue in front of her. I was out in the Tamora, and stopped to offer my services at the scene. She was seriously dead, the car concertina'ed to about a third of it's usual length. So I could understand the traffic slowing on that side of the m'way, but I was totally disgusted by the drivers on the southbound lane, all slowing down to have a good look. This is a dead human being, not a entertainment spot!! as soon as they were past, the cars etc. were all speeding up back to their usual driving, unconcerned, oblivious to the extinction of a human life - just a little titbit for the guys at work. I sometimes wonder about the human race's capacity for ignorance and self-absorption. It did cross my mind, that my girlfriend drives a red car, and was going shopping today. I had to ring her when I got home, just to check, y'know?

I do a lot of miles for work and see it a lot. It really gets my goat. I think its part of human nature but one you can overide if you see what I mean. I've seen it for a motorway plod pulling someone over the other side! Usually for crashes the other side. I don't look, too busy watching what the idiot in front is doing so I don't hit him but in my wing mirror I see his mate nearly hitting me!!

I was going southbound at the time, and had queued for 15 mins by the time i got to the scene. all it takes is 1 person to slow down and it causes a queue in which everybody is forced to crawl past the scene.

Not everyone is slowing doen to look - in heavy traffic if only say 1 in 20 slow down to stare then everyone has to slow down. F*king annoying and as you say it's not entertainment. One of my pet hates this.

Looks like going slowly kills then. When are we going to have a campaign about that then?

Sounds like having a look is more popular than stopping to offer help. I know stopping on a motorway is normally a no-no, but.
A few weeks back on a sunday, about 6pm, I was leaving a local town. In 30mph area, going into gentle left-hander doing about 30 (yes really), spotted Corsa coming towards me (literally) at about 50ish, sideways. I moved sharply left (well, you would, wouldn't you?) and watched it miss my rear wing by inches, carry on spinning, finally hitting the kerb on its own side of the road and landing on it's roof (best place for a Corsa IMHO)in the Grammar School entrance (nicely off the road at least). Not knowing who had been in the car (kids, nuns, who knows?) I did a 180 in the next junction while the wife phoned the emergency services.
I was there in half a minute. The driver, a 40ish woman had got out with a slightly cut arm (lucky), two other vehicles had stopped. The first one had been behind her, and was on his phone, telling his mates what had happened! He then drove off. The second was a breakdown truck! He was asking if she was in the AA or RAC! He was there a after we left (might have made a few quid?) after talking to police. Every other car slowed, had a good look and drove past. At least half a dozen cars saw this Corsa land on it's roof. Nobody else had phoned the emergency services.
Considerate, caring world.......
