Its my parents Ruby Wedding anniversary at the end of the month, and Mum wants to get Dad a digital camera as a present. Aiming to spend between £250 and £300 anyone got any recommendations?

Canon Powershot A80 £225.99 from Amazon

Cheapest place I found.

Then within your price range you can add on a decent compact flash card.

While you are about it NiMH batteries and charger, digital cameras eat batteries

You say Ruby wedding, any chance that pater's eyesight may result in him wearing specs? eg bifocals / varifocals. The fold out LCD screen like you get on camcorders makes life a lot easier.

Highly recommended.

The Olympus Camedia range seem to me to be good as well. My parents have one and having borrowed it a few times it did exactly what it said on the tin. Point and shoot and you get a great picture. They (my parents) managed to pick up a C-450 which is the 4.1 megapixel one for under £200... result if you ask me!

Just to add to my last post. Whatever camera you go for be aware that you WILL have to buy extras just to get it usable. I mean by that extra memory as I know with the C-450 you only get a 16MB memory card which is stupidly small and also as someone else said a good set of rechargable batteries are also advised but I think you may get a set with the C-450. A small case can be a handy thing to have as well to stop the camera getting scratched up.

id say look at the canon ixus 500 or the the canon S50, great little cameras, very high resolution, good zoom, and great quality. and something like £275 if you look on kelkoo.

Olympus have just launched the Mju410 - looks like the 300 and 400 but saves the images faster.

Thank you for all the suggestions will now go and do some research on the suggested options.

I have a Nikon 5700 which is a fantastic camera IMHO, although out of the budget on this occasion!

I initially thought Mum was giving it to him for his birthday at the end of last monthso my brother and I decided we would give him the card, batteries etc. Thereby ensuring he got a better camera. However were foiled by the change of plan! Parents!
