Hi PH... Need to settle this once and for all... Out of the standard, common pub (so no microbrewery stuff) mass-produced piss, what do you buy the most (so not necessarily best tasting but most popular if you know what I mean).

Cheers.

Going to start myself and say. San Miguel when it is there, Stella Artois when it isn't... (I know, I'm sorry)

These days I just buy what's on offer in a bottle - draft just tends to taste aweful.

Peroni.

Not really a fan of beer but find Peroni ok.

My favorite has to be Singha gold but as it's no longer produced and hard to source, then it has to be normal Singha. Next and undoubtly what I drink the most of is Stella Artois. I still have no idea why people are ashamed of drinking this.

Depends on the pub, but it's usually Tennents.

I do like a nice Tyskie or Krusovice though, in my local Czech bar.

It's known as "wife-beater", not sure if it was the Stella as such or the clentel who tended to sink 15 of them before abusing the wife...

To be fair after that many i'm not fit to stand on my hind legs let alone fight; even a woman (then this is medway though...)

Guinness. None of your diluted piss for me. Will normally drink a good IPA or similar when available, but always Guinness in a pub without cask ale.

Whatever the local bitter is. Round here it'll be Bath Ales Gem or Abbey Ales Bellringer by preference. I guess London Pride is often stocked all over the place and Marstons Pedigree is often found too, so either of those will do.

If we end up somewhere that doesn't serve bitter on pump (not tap) or in bottles then I suppose my default is either Budvar or Corona.

Guinness, but if you're talking lager then a Becks Vier slips down nicely.

Lager wise Stella is great, IIRC it used to be 5.4% and very chemically which is when it earnt the 'wife beater' tag. For years it has been 5% and IMO quite a smooth lager (with a kick), also like Peroni, Heineken Export and Carlsberg Export. Carling is like piss water, especially the extra cold st you get served at some pubs, would rather have a lemonade! Now and again some Leffe (blonde) is a nice change and the King Cobra was lovely, don't see it nowadays though.

London Pride when in a Fullers pub. Rather partial for Fursty Ferret in tins as well (Badger Brewery) and when up in the Midlands, Banks Bitter and Pure Gold (Purity Brewery).

This thread brings out the differences in expectations between lager drinkers and ale drinkers. The lager drinker expects to find the same beer in every pub so they can choose their personal favourite wherever they are (as lager travels well). The ale drinker expects to find local brews in pubs so gets more variety in their drinks but also more variability (ale generally doesn't travel well).

It makes it much harder for an ale drinker to pick a favourite as defined by the OP though hehe

Local ale - I prefer Harveys (Sussex) and most pubs I drink in have this on tap, but will happily sip on a pint of Bishops Finger if its Neame pub or bottled from the supermarket.
