Sometimes I can go a while and not make a decent cup of tea for love nor money, but for the last few weeks my cups of tea have all been great.

I know that milk varies with the seasons, but does waters make up or analysis vary to alter the taste of tea? If there has been a lot of precipitation there would more water coming from rivers as a pose to ground water in tap water. Would that explain the difference?

It is possible. Maybe you have been using fresh water in the kettle ? Makes a difference, oxygen loss or something like that.

This morning I noticed that I had a surface scum layer in my mug...not had that for a few months. I thought I'd fixed the scum problem by washing/shaking my tea-bags...but think it's more likely due to the hardness of the water and lack of rain.

Some of the larger tea bag producing companies make different blends for where it is to be sold in the country. If its a Hard water or Soft water area.

Can anyone recommend a decaffinated tea? The ones I've tried always have a funny taste. Normal tea please, not green!

I am terribly fussy about my tea. It has to be very strong and almost black. More than a teaspoon or so of milk - ruined. Full fat milk - ruined. Number of people who have given up trying to make it for me - plenty.

A kindred spirit.

Tea is no good unless you can fill potholes with it.

Water does make a difference - it tastes awful here due to the hard water.
