VX220 Driver Upbeat
Rob Croydon confident of a good show at Mondello in British GT race
Rounds 3 and 4 of the British GT Championship take place at Mondello Park in Ireland this weekend, and Rob Croydon will continue his season with Colin Blower Motorsport’s Vauxhall VX220 GT car.
After a character building opening 2 races at Donington Park a few weeks ago, the little team from Hinckley are expecting more from their brand new car, and Rob is upbeat about their chances.
“I’m looking forward to the race. I think the nature of the circuit should suit our Dailysportscar.com Cup class Vauxhall with its short wheelbase and punchy power from the Turbocharger ”.
The Eil.com backed driver continued “The car was so new at Donington and nobody expected anything of it. We learned a lot of important things from that weekend, not least that the car will be very fast. The team have worked hard on the reliability issues and sorted the boost problems we were suffering too ”.
Last weekend Rob was due to continue with his NASCAR season but he decided to skip a race in favour of helping with input to improve the Vauxhall. “We have tested a lot in the last few weeks, and we have ironed out a lot of small niggling things that helped to curtail our efforts in the last race, but I think now we will be able to give a much better performance ”.
Neither Rob or his team mate, Dan Eagling have raced at the Irish venue before, but positivity surrounds the team. Rob added “This weekend we hope our season will start properly. Our aim is for a podium in either of the 2 races. If we achieve that, and we know it’s a big step, we will be thrilled ”.

29....ex220
Shouldn't that be ex29 too We miss you out there Uncle R!
Have Colin and the boys sorted out the drive shaft problem?
Ex29
I know, but I can't think of a suitable "handle" at the moment, so I'll go with your suggestion of Ex 29
I miss it too, and am well miffed that the 220 deal fell through, still you can't win em all. To make ourselves feel better, Jan and I have just booked a race in the Uniroyal team challenge series, for a 3 hour enduro race at Silverstone on the 15th May, buzzing around in a "beetle" type racer, should be a laugh. We will probably get are arse's whipped by the VW boys but there again.......
The 220 has had all it's problems sorted so I think it will go very well this weekend, fingers crossed.
