weather proofing my camera

I've got an all day outdoor photo shoot on Friday and its forecast to piss it down! Does anyone have any ideas of how I can rain-proof my camera?

What camera?

I sometimes taped a plastic bag over my 350d/lens combo.

Cut a hole in it tape it roudn thend of the lens (us a filter), make sure its big enough to get your hands in etc.

Theres commercial equivelants to that out there too.

It's a Nikon D5000. I think the plastic bag idea may be the only solution. I don't really want to fork out £1k for a waterproof housing.

I find the problem in these situations is keeping rain off the front of the lens. I find my 100-400 the only lens with a big enough hood to keep the camera useable

Oh and wear a rucksack and take a big umbrella.

Not so much for your kit - although it helps if there's some stuff in there.

I then open the umbrella and stick it over my head between the rucksack and my back so I've got protection over my head and it keeps my hands free for shooting, drinking coffee whatever.


Take some big plastic bags so if you want to put the camera down - you can put it inside the bag and then place it on the ground.
