Crankshaft pulley bolt

I`m having a bit of a problem tightening the crank bolt. I put the car in gear, handbrake on and block the wheels but the car still moves before the torque wrench clicks, has anyone got any tips on tightening the bolt, cheers.

Remove the starter motor and jam the flywheel gear.

steve, have you got access to the flywheel?
if not remove starter motor, and get a big screwdriver or bar that is a very good fit, not sloppy or you stand a chance of breaking a tooth, between the flywheel teeth, that way you can lock the engine and tighten up the bolt, it will be a 2 man job mind, so get the mrs out there

Handbrake? You might have stood a chance with the footbrake ... (Mind you, it takes a lot of travel to wind up the transmission far enough to give enough resistance.)

Hi

This is probably silly question but have you got it in top gear....this is best and mostly works before going down the starter route.
