Wont the monitor stretch the image for you?

Image needs to be kept in correct aspect ratio, or it will look pants!

So why not ask them to put the monitor in 4:3 mode.

I dont know if you can change the aspect ratio in Powerpoint...

File-->Page setup-->Slides Sized For "Custom" & fiddle with the width & height to get a 16:9 ratio

Can't do that, because the slides are being shown either side of a film shot in 16x9..... and any switching of aspect ratio screen sizes will mean no smooth transition from slides to film and vice versa.

You need to understand how to make your slides anamorphic.

The plasma will squash the image when you're displaying at full screen 4:3, but in order to maintain the aspect ratio (especially is showing photo's etc.) you must artificially distort them before putting into Powerpoint.

For example, if you're running at 1024x768

In Photoshop (or whatever image editor), create your images at a res. of 1024x576 which is 16:9 ratio for 1024. Import these images into Powerpoint and they will stretch vertically.

Then, when you display them on a plasma they will revert to the correct ratio.

For vector elements (a circle for example), create a temporary presentation and set the image ratio (page setup) to 16:9 - 16cm by 9cm will do as you're just trying to get the object ratio right you can scale it later. Create the object (ie circle) and then set the page setup to 'On screen show'. Again, this will distort the circle making it look stretched vertically.

Then, just copy the object from the temporary file into your main (anamorphic) presentation and again, it will resolve itself correctly when displayed on a plasma/widescreen.

Simple eh
