Ride Drive?

Has anyone actually done one of their courses on here, if so was it any good and what did you learn i.e. anymore than road positioning, reading the road ahead and other basics. I am considering doing a full day but have found very few reviews.

I did a half day RideDrive a few years back. Really enjoyed the time spent. The half day 'on road' lesson teaches you about fast road driving, and road awareness. Forget most of the stuff you have learnt on track (if you have done any track work). As you say, it's about observation and anticipation. Some things very alien, like moving to the right for a left handed bend, which gives you a better view of what's coming round the corner. Watching where the road goes in the distance rather than just looking 50 yards in front of you etc.

IMHO a very worthwhile couple of hours

I did a full day course, including an hour on an airfield almost 5 years ago. Absolutely brilliant day, I would thoroughly recommend it.


It will be the best performance improvement "mod" you will make on your car (well, except for a supercharger of course )

Highly recommended! I did a two day course a few years back. Learnt loads of stuff and realised I wasn't as good a driver as I thought I was. Well worth it, but you have to go into it with your learning head on. If you think you know everything you'll learn nothing. Really enjoyed the 1/2 day section on an abandoned airfield somewhere in North Yorkshire. Had to cut it a little short though as I was running out of tread on the tyres.

+1 Did a one day course a couple of years ago, showed me what the car can do and what it does at/slightly beyond the limit - total fun! The road driving bit was equally good and improves your awareness and planning (esp for numpties).

I did the full day last year, great day out I learn't lots.

If it's road stuff you are after the IAM is very good and quite a few lessons, but i too fancy the air field/track stuff just wish it was not so far away for me.

Did one a few years ago around this time of year too.

Absolutely fantastic, learnt a lot and definitely would recommend it to anyone who has a performance car. And that is whether they are new to them, or had them for quite a while.

If you pay a small admin fee (used to be £32), then you get an assessment which (if positive of course) will get you an insurance discount with Flux.

Even if you don't do that, mention the fact that you've done the course to your Insurer upon renewal. Mine gave me an extra discount as well (and they didn't want to see any assessment)

i have done 2 courses first time half day after i ditched my scoobie to get some confidence back and then a full day including an hour at a proving ground in my westie, both times i did it with the same serving traffic policeman, who was excellent giving helpful constructive advice working with you to help and improve your driving especially how to drive around a corner on the road. Best mod you can do, and i was able to find and go over the limits in my westie so i knew where they were ( and know not to get any where near them on the road, track rubber = grip = but when she goes she goes with a bang...) I will be lookign to do one in the 500 as well in the future.

IMO those are more than basics, they are the cornerstone of making good, safe progress.
I've only been driving 30+ years yet learnt a lot on my two half days, despite the instructor.
