ive noticed from the takeaway thread that an awful lot of people seem to have chips with a ruby, why?? it just seems so wrong! i just dont get it.

i dont think i have ever been to an Indian restaurant with chips on the menu, is this a territorial phenomenon?

I'm happy with curry and half rice half chips provided the curry is "canteen" curry, same with Chilli again provided it is canteen stuff not a traditional "named curry" such as a dansak, buhna, etc.

It's a northern thing. In the south, curry always comes with rice. The further north you go, the rice is gradually replaced by chips. Also, gravy is added to the chips in the extreme north (Newcastle).

yes
Chip shop curry (sauce) and chips - fine.
Pukka 'indian' curry & rice (or chapati, naan, etc) - smashing.
Pukka 'indian' curry & chips - nono

Pretty sure there's a law against it.

Chip shop curry is not actually a curry, is it?

Not curry per se, but the Portuguese love their chips and rice.

for gods sake what's this mixing cuisine?? the only thing that should be on fish and chips is salt and vinegar.

I can't stand rice, so if I want a curry it is either on it own or with chips.

I'm in the middle on this one. I don't mind if I have rice or chips (fat ones) with my curry, but what I do insist on when I have a curry is either 1 or 2 garlic naan's (even if I have fat chips)
