A friend has just bought an RX8 and he found out on the way home that once you've got the car warm and turn it off it won't start again for app 15 mins.
He never buys himself new cars and this has really cheesed him off so I'm just trying to sort for him.
Any ideas?
Thanks chris

At least there's a checklist of things to replace before you get to the entire engine.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds like low compression to me which eventually occurs on nearly all rotaries. The only solution is an engine rebuild. Although not all warm start issues are entirely down to low compression 9 times out of 10 it is.

The seller obviously knew about it, and was hoping the new buyer wouldn't notice. Get it in for a compression check. How much did you pay for it out of interest?

Can be something as simple as new coils but they are not cheap.

Oh just saw this and its very similar to what mine is doing (just bought it)

Would you recomend getting it to mazda for a compression check so I have some evidence for the dealer or just take it straight back and hope he doesnt try to tell me its just something that happens with the car?

Mine happened the day I sold it which was a shocker. Luckily it had mazda warranty so they sorted it.

Depends if they are going to charge you but then you could always claim it back off the supplying dealer. Thinking back mine still started OK but was taking longer. The performance suffers too.

I would get it sorted before you have complete failure when the CEL light comes on and then it wont start at all.

A friend has just bought one (privately) that has this issue.

The car was 2500!

When happens as the problem gets worse? Does it get hard to start when its cold too? Or will it one day implode?

It's worth noting that the battery on the 8 is crap as well, so could be something as simple as changing that. It worked when I had starting issues smile

Im not sure but it will knacker the CAT in the end too which will bump up the repair bill.

The RX8 owners club has pages of threads on CEL/Engine Failure/Compression issues.

Traded mine in last year, it had developed the same issue when hot starting(not good). Pain in the arse when at the pumps and being a rotary that was often. New battery/ uprated starter motor/ new coil pack, yet still the problem, lovely car, but glad I now have a car that will start when I want it to.

Hope it is just a simple fix, but I reckon a pricey bill will follow if it's to be rectified.

Mines in with mazda right now getting a compression check with the same issue. Lets hope its the coils.

I guess if the compression check comes back fine, its definately some sort of ignition issue...
