So the training and prep is coming on for a 200 mile ride in May. (Only started recently so bear with me.

So far, have padded under shorts and one pair of padded cycle shorts. Both prettu comfy to a degree.

This weekend, went for longest non stop ride on Sunday and got a bit sore to the point where I coasted for a bit standing on the pedals. Did a long (for me) ride on friday as well.

What is the best thing to do/rub in etc to avoid recurrence? Do I rub stuff into the padded area of the shorts? Or have a good old play and get the stuff everywhere?

Any tips much appreciated....

ps - Find myself planning the next ride already smile

Magic cream will help with chafing but not pressure

I did my first 4h ride a while ago after a winter sticking to 2h and it was sore

For me at least my 'gentlemans area' just needs to toughen up and spend more time being tortured in the saddle as spring turns into summer

And you are wearing just one pair of padded shorts arent you?
More layers = more chance of rubbing

Best of luck

Check your saddle, is it supporting the right parts of your bottom? It maight be worth seeing if there are any more comfortable saddles.

Thanks - Am hoping I just need to toughen up!

On Sunday I did wear some lycra tights over my under shorts - wondered if that made any difference; no red raw bits so guess it is just pressure...

Cream will be tried smile

Nappy cream all over your grots, decent lycra shorts and a brooks B17 saddle. Brooks shape to your arse, and the leather carries away the sweat. They take a few miles to develop your shape, and until your sit bones make indentations it feels like you are sitting on peanuts. Once shaped, you'll wonder how you coped without a Brooks - they disappear beneath you.

I did a 200 mile ride last summer, and still put in 200 miles commuting the following week. No soreness whatsoever.
