hi guys , noticed the other day that my scooby had a small puddle of water underneath (95 2.0 turbo btw)
Cant be anything major as it has never overheated etc.

I put some radweld in but still dripping a bit about 1 drip every 1-2 seconds. It was dripping the whole time, now its just on startup, pretty much stops when it gets warm, then drips when its turned off.

The water looks to be coming from the top of the waterpump somewhere, possibly where the pump bolts up against the block, but very hard to see. Its then running down the sump and dripping off.

Could it just be the water pump gasket, or might the pump bearings be going, doesnt sound noisy though.
Also how hard is the water pump to do as looks almost impossible to get to, thanks.

Assuming it's roughly the same as a MY2000 turbo you need to remove the timing belt to get to the water pump.

I did my timing belt recently, and also had a pump to hand if needed. I found all the info I needed by googling. There are lots of threads with pictures on how to do it, but you may have to join up the sites to see the pictures. It's not a hard job for a competent home mechanic. It took me all day so I'm not that competent smile

I thought someone might say that!!! Oh well i want to do the cambelt anyway as dont know when it was done so i guess it can keep dripping for now and ill just do it all in one go when i get some cash.
I like t think i'm reasonably competent so ill try and beat your 1 day record, thanks

Good plan. I got a kit from import car parts that included the tensioner and idlers. It was non geniune but the belt had all the useful timing marks on it, and the idlers sounded gritty and needed changing. The old belt looked new, but the car is much smoother on the new one so was probably stretched. The crank seal is cheap to have handy just in case as well.

If you need any more info or links drop me a note. Good luck. smile

ah thanks for the advise. Yea i got some bits of those guys already, seem pretty reasonable on price. is the crank seal a common problem then??

AFAIK the crank seal leaking is not overly common, but seeing it costs a fiver and I had the belt off anyway, I got one just in case mine was leaking so I'd not have to wait if I needed one. It was ok this time so I didn't disturb it.

Some useful links I found
