Up until recently whenever i connected to the internet i could hear my modem dialling and connecting but now i cant. It stopped when i accidentaltty allowed an auto dialler to be installed on my computer. I have uninstallled the auto dialler and am happy that when i connect to the internet i am connecting to the right number and not some premium line. My question is how do i restore the modem volume. I have tried going into modem properties and moving the slider from off to loud but with no effect. I am also running a fully updated macafee virus scan and firewall on ME o/s and have used just about every spyware removal tool going. Incidentally, i have also noticed that when i close IE it doesnt auto disconnect even though the auto disconnect box is ticked and nor does it hang up when i have retreived me email even though the hang up when finished box is ticked.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Go to your modem configuration

There should be an option to enable modem speaker

or alternatively, get scary techy and use hyperterminal to issue AT commands to the modem..

A quick google should bring up the AT commands you need..

Just remembered... it's ATL3
