Tchenguiz brothers arrested
Discussion
Well that's no surprise - it was just a matter of time. They've been wideboys for years. And I know from an inside pal that they came from Iran with a lot of dough. He also told me that they're not actually Jewish but they pretend to be because "its good for business!".
I was in a club a few years ago when they were in there "larging it" - I'm not kidding you, they must have had a good 40 w
es with them in their entourage.
I hate this way of "making" money - buy a company, strap it, pay yourself, leave.
As for Candys, I reckon One Hyde Park is failing actually. There's just too much of a PR machine behind them and it to make me feel that it's selling. You just wouldn't be in the papers that often, trying to sell it, if the units were 60% sold.

Interesting time to arrest them. Unless they've had to surrender their passports, there would have been a fairly high chance of them being in the South of France this week...
It would be a terrible pity if they'd paid for a yacht charter at MIPIM and a party and couldn't attend.Murcielago_Boy said:

I know a lot of people would like them to fail, however this scheme is going very well. There's just nothing like it and won't be an opportunity to get anything like it for a long time. They're not home and dry by a long shot, but they're not doing too badly.

but I can't see who would want it. If you are spending that kind of money, you don't want to be in an apartment block with other people and you don't care about the on-site services because you employ your own people to provide those services.
Aren't the type of people who will buy or who have bought these apartments worth billions anyway? It's more of a status symbol to them. Is £50 million really a lot for an Arab prince, or a corrupt Asian President?Victor McDade said:

No, it's nothing, but they don't want to live on top of other people. They don't need this as a status symbol either. johnnywb said:

The development may well be going very well. But the selling? Two sold units as per land registry (one to the Qatari backers of the project, the others to Candy's themselves I believe). hmm? They're not home and dry by a long shot, but they're not doing too badly.
For the purported prices, Eaton Sq, Belgrave Sq, Bishops Avenue blah blah (and all the other tasteless trophy hellholes) are made to look cheap. Even if you're a tasteless thieving Russian, I agree with Zod, who wants to actually live there? In that goldfish bowl?
BTW - the Candy's have already made their money out of it. After they knocked down the old Barclays building that stood on that site, they got planning and then re-valued the land. They strapped up against the revised valuation, thereby ripping the £200M/£300M uplift out of it - paid straight to Monaco.
Who (apart from the Qataris with whom they've subsequently fallen out with over Chelsea barracks) cares if it fails now? They probably only do so because they don't want to be shot by their backers.

I've witnessed this as well, except when I saw Vincent (on his own) he only had 8 w
es with them in their entourage.

An opportunity to pay tens of millions for a flat with low ceilings, on a horrendously busy junction, with no parking, and a view of a Chicago rib shack? They're not home and dry by a long shot, but they're not doing too badly.
No, you're likely right there; it's unlikely that we'll see an offering like this again or many a year...
I'd heard that the highest cost apartment was only "sold", as opposed to the more traditional sold, where a person unconnected to the developers hands over actual money and takes permanentposession.
