More C63 advice.......
Discussion
Ok im in the very near future when my quest for a C63 will begin. I will have a £43k ish budget can go higher but would rather not. Now my question is PP needed for day to day driving, im i losing a part of the cars soul by not having the PP. Anyone bought a C63 without and lived to regret it.
Is there that much difference....

you should be able to buy a pp c63amg for 43k you might even be able to get a pplus c63 for about 45k would be worth it if you could even just for resale value. Is there that much difference....
I was in the market for a nearly new C63 at the end of last year and didn't even look at cars without PP+ and LSD after speaking to various owners.....I am sure there are plenty of owners who run C63's without and are fine with it but my view was that when resale comes in 3 years time, I'd rather have the PP+, LSD and Drivers pack on it.
Had it now for 3 months and can't get enough of it, the smooth ride in Comfort mode to the awesome noise on changedown when in Manual mode....

How do you know if the car has LSD,what do you look for. I know about the PP...
If the car is a 2009 or before, you can define if it has PP as it'll have silver brake callipers and a half-alcantara steering wheel. These define a PP of this era and as such will have an LSD as they were standard. If the car is a 2010 or later PPPlus it will have red brake callipers, the half-alcantara steering wheel and carbon rear spoiler. These did not have the LSD as standard so you need to get hold of the spec sheet to see if the AMG Differential Lock has been spec'd.
So....
- Silver callipers and half-alcantara steering wheel = 457bhp and LSD is 100% definitely fitted
- Red callipers, 10 plate or newer, half-alcantara steering wheel and carbon spoiler = 487bhp but LSD NOT definitely fitted so you need to check the spec of the car
IMO (and I have historically been quite vocal about this), I think it's barmy to have a 450-500bhp car without a mechanical locking diff so I will always recommend an early PP car or a later PPPlus only if it has the LSD.

Jeez anyone would think you owned one or something...;) If the car is a 2010 or later PPPlus it will have red brake callipers, the half-alcantara steering wheel and carbon rear spoiler. So....
"Silver callipers and half-alcantara steering wheel = 457bhp and LSD is 100% definitely fitted"
Not allways 100% a used c63 was sold by mercedes last year with silver calipers and half alcantara steering wheel yet it was not a ppack car (no lsd) - very very unusual i know so be carefull.

The previous owner must have retro-fitted the wheel (they are available on eBay for about £500 IIRC).Yes, still need to be careful but you can't really predict a previous owners 'mods'!

Mmmm.....maybe. Just a tiny little bit

Sounds crazy given it's replacement is a 997 Turbo but theres so much the Porsche just doesn't do as well as the AMG that I'm sure I'll be back in an AMG in the not too distant future.
I saw the facelift model at Geneva last week and thought it was a very successful facelift, especially the new interior. It'll be a good drive too with the new MCT gearbox!
The car I really want is the new CLS63....that was probably my favourite car of the show and is a stunning piece of kit....but alas, it's just too rich for me!
The early ppack c63 has a very very stiff ride i now own a ppplus c63 and prefer the softer suspension on this car,the state of the roads do not help on my journey to work but there is a massive difference between the two.Mercedes state there is only a 10% stiffer spring difference but in reality it feels more like 50% it is a very very hard ride.

i tried it with 19s and the ride was very stiff. It was as if the shipping blocks were still in the springs. However when I bought my PP 09 spec car on 18s, the ride improved demonstrably. The demo car had 200 miles on it so it could be still settling in and i was driving on the streets on london. I love my pp car with 18s though.. maybe my next set of tyres should be the sticky but short lived yoko advans..... Gassing Station | Mercedes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
