It's like someone painting a Spitfire in Luftwaffe colours - it's just not right.

Oh I see - the usual old arrogance at play.

And as for Luftwaffe Spitfires

Still not the done thing though, is it Eric..?

More to the point, Ireland aren't (theoretically) at the same standard as England. As with all these things though, sport has a habit of turning things upside down (like Arsenal losing to Birmingham at the weekend).

They've been getting better over the past few years - especially as a lot of the Irish lads now play at English County level.

True, but not a test nation - hence the stigma.

Maybe its time to start broadening the scope of what constitutes test countries

Winning as fifty over thrash doth not a test team make.

You can't write off players as "only county" - as far as I know, every single test player England have ever put out to play has been "only County"

Of course we should be thrashing Johnny Foriegner by 100 gazillion runs etc

But look - Kenya bt Sri Lanke ten years ago, Minnows ave made it out of the heavily stacked groups before, it is nothing new.

What is different here is they chased 330 to do it, great performance.

Amazing performance. Might do England some good in a perverse way by eliminating any complacency going forward.
They should have beaten India on the weekend but started to relax towards the end of their chase and it took a VERY flukey six from Shehzad that got them to draw. (great game though!)

Shameful comment. Well done to the Irish cricket team.

In 1966, Ireland beat the mighty West Indies - so they have pulled off the odd shock before.

Mind you, they did take the Windies out on the town the night before so that may have had something to do with it.
