Anyone have any other than Le Cruset?

I need a big caserole pot but the pikey in me refuses to pay £130+ for the large Le Cruset dishes.

Analon do a new Raymond Blanc range of cast iron pots (I have their Professional range saucepans which are excellent) which look good and the large one is about £50.

Anyone got one or any good reasonably priced recomendations?

Thanks

I bought a couple of 6l Vogue Casserole pots from Nisbets at the end of last year. Used them a few times and they seem very good for the money.

Does that work well on a hob?

Is designed for an open fire, but nothing to say it would not work in an oven with the shelves removed

Outlet centres for LC.

The irony being the bigger the pot, the cheaper it is since it won't have sold as most wimmins can't lift them.

Staub is good kit, and I would pick up some pieces, but have alot of cast iron LC stuff already.

But like LC it isn't cheap. But will last you well into your grey hair days (or no hair), so cheap in the long run.

From what I've been told, the thing with the Le Creuset cast iron cookware is it's a very fine (i.e. light) cast for the strength... which is fair enough if that matters to you, but at £25 for a decent-sized casserole I doubt I'd begrudge a few sessions on the chin-up bar. smile

I have a couple of non LC pots, bought them in hardware shops at €50.sold as a "knock down" from €80,you must have the same deal in the UK,great pots can't see the difference myself.if you want real cast iron Lodge is great, all the other brands look pretty spot on to me,judge by weight as much as anything

What's the odd hernia getting it out of the oven anyway? biggrin

Thanks all.

Might go for one of these now (Analon 7 litre) as they are in the Debenhams sale for £62 (normally £105 in John Lewis)

Slightly O/T but if you are thinking of cast iron for casseroles, look at clay pots as well. Way better than any of the cast iron pots i've used in the past and given away.

I've got one of these too biggrin They're good stock pots, but have disadvantages for stews - they're tall rather than wide so you don't get as large an area for browning meat and you need to use a very low shelf in the oven, because it's nonstick it doesn't brown things as well and the coating isn't as tough as I'd like.

Thanks for that, there's a Dunelm just around the corner from our showroom. I just bought a huge oval for £39.
