You realise that because you got pole last time and second overall, that means you have to carry an extra 15 kilo of balast at Middlesbrough........

I need all the advantage I can get As I've said before Bob, I don't want to damage my car... I have to become either confident that it won't break when I put it on the track, or am happy to accept the consquences for the breakage.
Karting is off, no point going with only 6! Dave, Teemu and I have pulled out. Dan and Woody won't be going either I'm guessing.

There's no doubt Croft track days are safer than driving in town. There's no old ladies or cats crossing the road, nobody heading towards you at a combined 60mph with only white lines to keep you apart, no side roads for people to pull out of. Just clear open smooth tarmac and no speed limits.

The croft track day was my virginal experience
It was well briefed - well booked - well admin'd
The guys and gals were all serious - no one wanted to dent their pride and joy and thats what makes it so safe
Only an arse fails to get out of the way for a faster car

It's not so much cost, but it has to be a consideration - I could save up to do it, no hassle.
And it's not crashing I'm bothered about, nor fear of crashing (although I would be killed in any accident in the Marlin), it's damaging the car by hard usage.
Ultimately in my mind a track day means driving your car a little quicker than normal, braking a little harder, turning harder... remember my car is a 1974 Morris Marina and is very likely to break. Until I can accept that the car is broken / damaged / off the road I won't do anything that escalates the chances of damage to the car. Normal road driving is one thing, track days are another.
For instance it's upsetting me like you wouldn't believe that clutch operating lever is bent and that I can't drive it for a month until it's fixed, while I might have a few moments of joy from the hours that I'm there, what happens if it breaks?
I'm not well, and I have to look at things objectively but agree you can't live your life frightened of doing things. For that reason one day I will take the Marlin on the track, but not just yet.

For me the track day thing is mainly a cost thing. Tyres cost rather a lot of money so at the moment I can't really afford to go through what's left of my S02s, but I do understand where Stefan's coming from.
There is the worry that if you tak the car on the track, push it too hard, another bit will fall off it, leaving you car-less and subsequently with another hole in your wallet.
For us who have little money and rely on our car as our only means of transport, the risk is a bit too much.
But then again I have done track days in my Mini, and they are fantastic!! Eventually I will take the plunge and do a track day, but it will be when I am close to getting new tyres and when bits stop dropping off my car. ie the wing mirror.
