I will, of course, get along to my doctor, but it won't be for a couple of days.....
I have an odd knee problem, it has suddenly become extremely painful to walk up and down stairs! I haven't twisted or banged my knee, it's not swollen at all, but is painful to touch just under the knee cap. My knees are in good shape (not stressed though any exercise or sport!).
I can walk on a level surface, but not up or down stairs.... What could it be? Cartillage?
Not possible to diagnose on the web, but someone might have a thought or two before I see the doc.

Patella Tendon, I expect that if you start doing some light shallow (very to start with) single leg dips standing on an inclinded surface you will cause this to improve. You will need to up the number and depth of the dip over the time but you should be better after 4-6 weeks.
As I had exactly the same a year ago!

This sounds very similar to what i have had for the last year or so.....
It comes and goes but i have been playing 5 a side football lately and its very painful again
Its where my kneecap meets the tendon / ligament below, right where the two meet.
It hurts to press the area and aches when goung up stairs etc
I seem to remember it originally starting to give me grief when i knelt on a tie wrap knuckle a year or so back

No I havent. How exactly do you do them?
Like this, http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=patell...you don't need the music though!
Don't go as far down to start with or have additional weight on your back, build up to it slowly.
This video shows a good massage technique for the tendon.
