Chassis restoration at RT Racing
Discussion
My outriggers have seen better days so I've been giving some thought to getting my chassis restored. I have no plans of ever getting rid of my Chim so it'd be nice to have a nice clean chassis under the old girl. Anyway, after reading the section in Sprint a little while back on RT Racing in Sheffield, I was rather impressed. My only concern is of one thing leading to another and £3,500 + VAT escalating to a much higher level.
Has anyone on here had the same thing done?

If you are keeping the car, go for it. You will have peace of mind that everything underneath is in first class order and if you look after it there is no reason why it shouldnt remain that way. But believe me, one thing will definately lead to another and another and another until everything is done. Well it has on mine anyway.
My Griff is currently with Richard at RT having the full monty and a bit more, really great bunch of guys putting out some quality work, richard will keep you fully informed and even send you a spread sheet so you can keep track of your costs, untill the body is off you never really know how deep the hole goes!!
Not half.
By the time the chassis is stripped you might as well change all the hoses and brake lines. A few new shiny bits - swirl pot, silicon water pipes, refurb the shocks, skim the discs etc, it all mounts up. But is all worthwhile, whilst the car is stripped.
In the end my V8S was £9k and a bit inc vat, but it is a different car. Its fantastic. Original minor build errors in the chassis were corrected etc.
It was Austec not RT but they are cut from the same sheet aren't they.

+1I had my outriggers done in-situ at Sportmotive in Stoke early last year who also do chassis restoration and replacements, (and have had no problems or concerns about this I hasten to add!) but after spending time with Richard at his place in Sheffield and also speaking to him at BNG, when the time comes I will be giving him some consideration.
My chassis is pretty much solid for now, but the car is a keeper after the recent work, so at some stage the chassis will need a "seeing to".
I firmly believe in the "get what you pay for" train of thought, and prefer to buy on value rather than cost. a full chassis refurb at £4k+ is surely better than a number of patches and half-assed fixes that may only cost £2k for example.
What he did indicate though, that for any new extra parts such as wishbones, shocks, discs etc there is no extra labour charge for fitting, as the price includes the full strip and rebuild anyway.

Had my outriggers replaced by X-Works Service in Blackpool. Did it all for less than £3000 way less, and the beastie is ready for another 15 years of hard driving and playing. (if petrol comes down in price

)
Give Heath and Paul a shout at X-Works Service, the outriggers are made up on the orginal jig.
Brillant job and great peace of mind to have it done, even though mine had not holed, it was still time to change them.
