I tried a V6 S2 which made lots of noise but wasnt all that quick.
It must have been unwell!!!!!! I would suggest that you try a different one before you write off the V6. Where abouts in the West Mids are you, if you want you can have a ride in mine if your are local to Worcester or there is probablya get together on 20th March at the Blackboy near knowle about 12:30Norman
I started with a s2,then v8`s,and then a tr6 and to be totally honest out of the three i miss the tr6.Performance wise theres little difference.I go out in tandem quite often with my cousin in his s2,and amazingly there appears to be very little difference between the three.Ive now got a 400se wedge and that is fairly evenly matched too,and all my cars have been very healthy marques, all great in their own little way.
What V6 owners say...

A unfettled V6 S should put out 160bhp or more. A standard V8S should be around 200bhp. Not much difference in the real world in the grand scheme of things.

What does everyone think of this V8S?
Looks a lovely car to me. If I had mine sold, I would definitely think of it as an upgrade

Sorry have to disagree with Lukas i think there is a significant difference . The TR6 CP series was actually around 142 bhp as 150 bhp was in old money. The TR6 CR series was around 125 bhp. The v6S is quoted around 160bhp for a 2.8i and 170 bhp for a 2.9i. The V8S is quoted at 240 bhp. Having owned a TR6 there is no comparison between that and a V8S in terms of performance. But saying that i really like all TR6's and TVR S whatever the model.

The difference is actually very noticeable, and it's the torque you notice most. The V6 puts out quite useful torque when it is on cam. The V8S feels like that across the whole rev range. They're both fast cars, but put them side by side on the road or step from one to the other and the difference is very noticeable.I would imagine feeling quite a difference between the V6 2.9 @170bhp and the V8 @240bhp.
I have never been in the V8 and only bought the V6 because it was in my price range.
My V6 is fast and has bags of torque but if both engines are running well you have about 40% more power in the V8.

^^^^This^^^^I loved owning and driving TR6's, but finding one that puts out a genuine 150BHP is hard work. Way heavier than the S too, plus to enjoy spirited driving you've got to spend out on a rear telescopic conversion, or you won't go round corners at any speed. Great cars, but will feel like an antique after the S - it's a 1950's chassis in a 1970's suit.

I doubt any unmodified V8S puts out 240bhp. Many 4.0 Chimaeras put out under 200bhp.

There is no comparison between a V6 and a V8 in an S, as Pete H said its all about the torque not just the bhp - I've owned good running examples of both.
In fact in the TVR European Challenge they actually changed the regs for Class C eligibility to prevent V8s running - whilst they may have met the power to weight bhp requirements the available torque simply decimated the competition from the V6 cars - many running Cossy V6s (me included at that time).
The last V8S I owned (before the 5 litre engined one I'm currently running) was a 4 litre running under 200 bhp. I rebuilt that engine to spec (blue-printed I guess) - no wilder cam, overbore or big valves but I did have the heads flowed (as I understood some of the original cars did) and had the bottom end balanced too as you do. Post rebuild and properly mapped by Paul at Austec, that 4 litre engine put out exactly 240hp & circa that in ft.lb. torque.

oops! Looks like I opened a can of worms regarding V6 and the V8. The TR6 thing was just an example of the type of cars I had when I was a nipper. I have been playing around with kit cars where 300bhp/ton is quite normal and acceleration is quick. When I had a test in the V6 it didnt compare to the kit cars in terms of acceleration due to the weight difference. I considered a V6 and dropping a 24V cosworth in, but when I weighed up the costs it made more sense to go for a V8 as rear discs and lsd as standard. As I plan to do some hillclimbs etc I think the V8 just makes more sense, especially if you consider that in most cases a 2.9 litre and 4.0 litre will both compete in the same class (roadgoing over 2 litre)
