when under warranty, they change all of them I think. My turbo had similar things. Would not be too worried about this. In the sense: if a small rock or smthg hits the rads and they start leaking.

My initial question is more along the lines of: good apple? bad apple?

is there a 996 model that you're not going to sample, eric?

It looks like a nice example, been for sale for ages though, IMO it's at least 5k over priced for a mk1 even with the low mileage.

not massively keen on the colour. Guess price can always be discussed. Problem with these cars is to make sure they have not been bent.

Now that is very expensive (albeit very nice).

I've seen the car at Castello, Darren who runs the place is also a top buy IMHO.

The car is dear BUT it really is stunning and as close to new as you're going to get. With the prices of 993 Turbo S and 930's if you are looking at a longterm bet its a great addition to a collection.

I think the biggest thing now is finding a good car, hence I'll be keeping hold of mine for a long time yet!

As much as I like the GT2, I do not think it will rise in value. Reason being: porsche produces more and more of all the so called 'special' gt versions.

Every year, you have more and more gt2 / gt3's etc. Regardless of 996/997 versions (i think this is irrelevent).

Air cooled are gone for example and these will never come back.

All this being said I like the car (not ideal colour).

Darren may be a nice guy, but my experience is that a LOT of these cars have been bent. Hence me asking.

You'd have to wonder where it's been as it was last serviced over 3 years ago.

I disagree...

The 996 GT2 is the last truly terrifying, hairy-chested, pure, driver's 911. The final fast 911 without driving aids.

I say it'll be remembered for that reason, regardless of what comes next.

There's something thrilling about getting into a 996 GT2 and knowing that it's just you and the car. That feeling is utterly spoiled by having to prod one little button to turn off the traction, then another to put it in sports mode, then another to make the exhaust noisier, it's all a bit girly really.

Eventhough I see the argument, I find it not as strong as the air-cooled / water-cooled argument.

Once again, I love the gt2 and seriously considering one, but in 10 years time, would people see much between a 996 gt2 and a 997 gt2? I would not think so.

We can start a debate 'a la 996 gt3 mk1 vs 996 gt3 mk2', but we'll end up going in circles.

I do not think the 996 gt2 is 'special' enough to justify a rise in prices somewhere down the line => and this is me about to be an owner in the near future -hopefully-.

Viewed it last October, it's well nigh perfect, there's a bit of flexibility on price (but not the £5K mentioned on here) rofl

OPCs do tend to replace all the rads under warranty (they did on my old midnight blue car) but that may depend on your relationship with the OPC in question.

I think this car's just been serviced by Solihull Porsche.

I would tend to disagree with your views on prices going up.

With 116 ? UK cars, a lot of which have been heavily damaged and modified, the pool of straight, original cars is dwindling. The press berated the car (mainly it's handling) at its launch (just as they did the 964 RS . . . )

In the goodness of time they'll be seen as the last of the "new age" cars without driving aids and be appreciated for that (irrespective of the means by which the engine is cooled)

and just remember, a 964 RS could be had for £22k in 2001 . . . .

Who knows what they'll do. All I know is, to me it feels far more of an occasion getting into one than it does any 997 GTx or indeed a 964 RS.

Let's bookmark this thread and come back to it in 10 years. smile

In the meantime, get one bought - even if it's worth 12 pence when you come to sell it, you'll have had £50k's worth of driving pleasure. Just keep it between the hedges.

Correct me if I'm wrong (and often am) but the 996GT2 was the last of the road GT cars built in the motorsport factory before the Mk2 GT3 become a production line car? Not that it makes a big difference really just a nice piece of history for the model.
