I just read that ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 will have up to 12 minutes of adverts an hour rather than the present level of seven minutes.

I am going to record everything and FFW through the adverts, even if its live I am not sitting though that many adverts.

I usually fast forward through the adverts anyway, there was something in the paper a bit back that advertisers were designing adverts that worked at two speeds, one normal and one at fast forward speed so you still saw an ad. I haven't seen any sign of it yet though (not sure how it would work with the various fast forward speeds on sky plus anyway?).

That's already the case, isn't it?
They used to have 2x sets of adverts. One at 20 minutes in, and one with 20 minutes left.
Now we get them at 10-15 minutes in, half past, and with 10-5 minutes to go.

I can't remember the last time I watch commercial TV live.
I used to give F1 an hour head start when it was on ITV.

DVR and on-demand is the only way.

Tip: Don't ever attempt to watch a film on ITV2/3/4 - they have adverts every 20-25 minutes. Even their light night films, it's ridiculous.
I can't even be bothered to record them as I seem to keep the remote in my hand due to skipping the adverts so often.

As with others, I now just fast forward through ads when I can.

However, I'm willing to bet money that we have more than 7 mins of ads at the moment. Some channel5 or ITV4 films late at night are RIDICULOUS for ads (to the point where, if watching live, I simply turn the film off).

(If you're watching alone)

During the ads, flick to the "I'm a dirty bh with moderate looks who'll do anything for cash...call me!" channels and have a gander at some boobage.

What I'm surprised hasn't been picked up on is that when and ad break starts on one channel, it (very often) also starts on another. This suggests that the channels are colluding which they aren't supposed to do - unless the legislation has changed.

In some programmes, there are adverts even before the start credits begin!

Yep, channel hopping is limited to the middle five minutes of every quarter-hour due to the vast number of ads. I know they pay for the channels, but by God they're annoying.

Discovery channels are the worst, I have seen many time adverts starting at 6 or 7 minutes into the programme, another at 15-20 minutes in, another at 40 minutes in and yet another at about 50-55 minutes in. Sometimes on Mythbusters they go back to the final section and it is literally 3 minutes left then the credits start.

I've always known 4 breaks per hour though.

Where'd you read that? I read the opposite (think on the BBC or DS) that The Lords want satelite to fall in line with terestial tv and schedule less ads per hour

Oh god this does my head in to, especially when Discovery are promoting a new program eg the flight investigation program with the annoying advert that just features the pilot of the plane that crashed into the Hudson recalling the moment he called in "mayday mayday mayday" in the most mono tone dull voice i've ever heard.

There reason is so that when the programs change over there is very little adverts in between them - as such, you're more likely to watch the next program.

Take Me Out has a one hour and fifteen slot on a Saturday night. It's 52 minutes long on Virgin catch up.

we absolutely definitely do - [very sad admission time] actually timed the amount of adverts during 'Lost' once - a one hour slot contained 38 minutes of new material, 4 minutes of recap and 18 minutes of 'adverts'. I complained about it to the ITC, it turns out that 'adverts' do not include trailers for other programmes being shown by the station, so all those had to be discounted, which is why we have what they consider to be adverts 6 minutes after a programme starts, means they can add a good 5 minutes of trailers in.

ITV - unwatchable crap
Channel 4 - unwatchable crap, apart from 1 or 2 comedies
Channel 5 - unwatchable crap

I literally watch nothing on TV now except Top Gear and the F1, just stream/download everything from the internet.

Ahhh. That makes sense why I believe we have more than 7 mins of ads! Good to know I'm not the only one smile

I do wonder too if they, very cleverly, use 7 mins per hour at the end of one hour and the beginning of the next (which is during the same programme) if it's a particuarly popular programme.

They do indeed twist things - for example they make the assigned slot 1hr 5 minutes. I'm told the reg's are per slot not programme run time.

Personally can't understand why anyone would watch TV on a station with adverts. I can honestly say I can't remember the last time I watched a live TV broadcast on an advertising station.

Smiler.

At 7 mims or 37 mins past the hour, Sky 1 etc has an ad break.

Absolute toilet!

I now make a habit of NOT buying whatever product is first up. Mind you, it's usually something do do with wimmins who can't or can't stop in the pee, crapp or leak department so not relevant anyway.

Thank God for the beeb.
