Vinyl Wrapping - Anyone done it?

Hi All,

I'm going to LeMans this summer and was thinking of doing a bit of Stickering - Just the odd TVR logo or similar but i've been offered to have my T350 vinyl wrapped at cost by a friend of a friend in exchange for using it as a reference...

Has anyone else done it? Are there any risks to the paint? (Specifically TVR paint!)

Oooooh and Matt Black or Carbonfibre.... or CHROME !

Nothing to do with wrapping - do it if you want to.

But what makes you think there is something 'special' about TVR paint?

I looked at this briefly for my Tuscan. But was told that the curves of the car would make it a right bugger to do. Almost to the point that companies would not take it on. I don't how true this is to be honest. A T350 would probably be easier in any case.

Did I miss something? There's no comment above about TVR paint being 'special'. I have given wrapping serious consideration; I'm just worried that it'll look tatty after a couple of years

By 'special paint' I think he was referring to this line in the OP's original post. I don't think TVR paint is any more prone to peeling off than any other marque's. In fact I think TVR paint is somewhat better than some of the awful finishes I've seen on some BMWs, Audis and Mercs.

The TVRFix Griffith has been wrapped and they don't get more curvy than a Griff.

a friend of mine had his black RS4 wrapped in white.. its awesome! Perfect finish and yet to get a stone chip, no doubt because its vinyl! He had them do a carbon effect on the roof aswell

I'm sorry, I have to ask. Black car, wrapped in white?

Couldn't buy a white one or just fancied a change?

Im having a bit done on my 2S For le mans and I hope there are no issues with getting the wrap off afterwards Is there any risk to bringing the cars paint off?

Whoa there! Sorry maybe a bit of a misplaced exclamation mark on my part... I'll be honest I know nothing about car paint but have heard people stating xxxx car had better or harder paint than xxxx - I don't know where TVRs are on this scale - just want to know if I wrap the car that in 6 months when I peel it off the paint is in the same condition it is today!

If the original paint is well bonded then no problem but it will pull off any defective areas on removal as Amazon discovered on her Cerbie a while ago.

I wouldnt wrap a Tuscan if I expected to get the wrap off without damaging the paint, this is because the paint is often damaged on the bonnet near the exhaust headers. You may not be able to see it on ally cars but most seem to have some damage ranging from lifting paint to blisters or crazing.

If there is anything similar on T350's near the headers then I wouldnt take the risk

Sorry, but I cannot stand the current trend of people believing their TVR is 'special' or different. It's a plastic bodied, mild steel ladder framed chassied, parts bin we. Okay, so a T350 might be less of a we, but it's still uncomfortably closer to a Reliant Robin than a Gallardo.

Interestingly the above description makes it closer to a Ferrari GTO than a Reliant Robin.

Later models eg Tuscan, T350 and Sagaris are no more a collection of parts bin parts than the Gallardo you quote

Find a GOOD detailer near you and ask if he'll measure the thickness of the clear coat if your worried mate.

I would love to see a few TVRs wrapped!

They managed to do it to this F430 which has a few tight angles and curves.

Had this done for LM last year. The flag on the roof is a vinyl, the same as would be used for a full wrap. It was on the car for a couple of months or so and came off fine, just used a heat gun to get it warm enough to pull off. Had no untoward paint issues after removal either

Saw a carbon-fibre effect fully wrapped Cerb at ROAR last year.

Personally, I liked it.
