It does, I've had BBC News on covering it for a bit. Hopefully it isn't too bad.

News is saying 65 confirmed dead and no ambulances left so the public are having to help where they can.

I'm 300 miles away and it had me looking nervously at the ceiling, felt a couple of the aftershocks as well but nothing compared what Christchurch has been hit with.

Not good at all. My sister's in Auckland so I especially don't like seeing NZ headlines like this.
Who was the PHer who posted pics up of his damaged garage last time? Hope he's ok.

My wife's sister just phoned us from Christchurch. They're both ok but their house is badly damaged. Her husband was in the basement garage which is steel framed so was ok. She was teaching in the City. School a write off but the kids were ok as they were outside in the playground as it was lunchtime.

Terrible story- some kids waiting to be collected by parents who are never going to come.

I'm down south in Dunedin, I didn't feel it but some people did, my GF is a doctor down here and doesn't know when she will be home tonight. They may end up taking a load of people in. She also said that it was bloody wobbly up on th 9th floor of the hospital. Can't believe I didn't feel it, I must have been that engrossed in my work it didn't register.

I thought it's better for it to be during the day. At night, rescue is more difficult , and during the day a lot of people will be outside.

Generally thought to be worse during the day, because more people are liable to be hit by debris in areas like the City Centre.

Just heard from my sister who's in Christchurch with her OH for a 'holiday of a lifetime'

The building that they were stood outside collapsed in the earthquake, her OH was injured by falling debris and was dragged out into the street by someone. He's been seen in hospital and had 14 stitches in his ankle and has a mild concussion. He needs to go back later for an x-ray on the ankle as they think it's broken. They couldn't x-ray him at the time as they were too busy.

Sounds like total devastation over there from what she's said. Thankfully they're ok though.

Managed to speak to one person over there, the area she was in got off pretty lightly. Sadly not the city centre though

Just heard that the son and daughter in law and baby of s friend of my wife's has had a lucky escape.

Their house was badly damaged and the baby escaped injury - even though the ceiling collapsed on his cot.

This is going to be a very sad day for New Zealand and I think many in the UK will be affected by this too.
