I know some smartass will tell me to "use the search function", is there a way to check the service history of a car?

I have a load of receipts and a book full of stamps, however my car has 75k on it and i'm trying to find out if it has had the belts done, does anyone know an easy way of doing this?

Thanks

You could try phoning the dealer or garage in the service book(should be a stamp towards the back) or if the previous owner left his details on some receipts you could call them. Most owners would be completely upfront with this and may even tell you about a few other faults you haven't noticed yet.

I don't think you can just phone Ford UK (for example) and get a run down on history (maybe different on a pestige make?confused but with mainstream makes it's a nono).

Try ringing the manufacturers UK head office, contrary to the second reply this is perfectly acceptable and they will usually be happy to help. Other than that try contacting local dealers to see if they have a record of it.

Dealers are quite good with this. I've phoned one dealer to ask about a cambelt change, they said it wasn't done and that they have replaced the mirror at one point too- either way I knocked £200 off the asking price to cover the cambelt and didn't care about the mirror.

If the cambelt has been done then it will be on one of the more recent invoices, and it is likely to have been done as part of a service.

Have a look at the cambelt cover too - some garages will slap a sticker on it if it's been done.
